That time of year again at work

Posting for traffic and a moan.

It's that time if year when people start talking about potential bonus and payrise and how the system is fucked up against them and they are going to say this and do that and tell some manager about whatever if it doesn't go their way. If people put as much energy into their jobs they might just get the pay rise and bonus they want?

I didn't realise people still get pay rises these days..

This isn't really something I've ever observed in any of the places I've worked in the past 20 years Confused

Sickofthisshitty · 11/10/2019 23:05

It's honestly awful. Every year there's always certain people who talk about this as if they are entitled to something and think they are amazing at their jobs. Its frustrating

OP I know exactly the type you are talking about and I agree - funny how its always the people who just about scrape target (or dont) and are constantly browsing facebook or online shopping who complain about not getting paid enough. It's never the ones who are fantastic at what they do, are always happy to help out, always coming up with and working on ideas to improve service who are complaining...

I hear you! Tiresome.

isabellerossignol · 11/10/2019 23:46

I'd love to work somewhere with payrises and bonuses.

I too would have no sympathy for anyone who doesn't pull their weight but then complains about not getting a bonus though.

I hear ya.

Work for an amazing company. We all get a minimum increase of 2.5% every year, and a bonus of between 8% and 20%. It’s performance driven so the real high performers get a higher increase and a bigger bonus, but that’s limited to about 2% of the employee population. The vast majority get 2.5% increase and 8% bonus.

Every year, many of those who “only” get a 2.5% increase and an 8% bonus spend a good month meeting union reps, sitting in grievance meetings, and rallying others to listen to their whinges. They lose hours and hours of productivity.

Our increase and bonus amount is based on company affordability so I like to point out that slowing down production, reducing performance, and tying the company up on costly grievances processes is reducing the overall affordability of these increases and bonuses.

The average salary in my company is £68k. We’re well paid. Meanwhile, I’m looking at economic conditions and thinking that cuts will hit at some stage, and increases will be the first on the block, followed by bonuses.
