If you commute to London, where do you live?

There’s a course I want to do in London when I I finish my degree, but I don’t think I will be affording to live there. If you live in a cheaper are outside of London, where is it and what is your commute like?
The other option is to move to the north of England where they also run the course, but I really can’t hear the accent (i’m Not English native and my brain just can’t process the accent! I feel this may be too much of a challenge.)
Aibu to consider commuting to London from an hour or so away or to try and basically (what feel like) learn a new language!

Search season ticket calculator on google, use the trainline website. Add the monthly cost to rent and bills for any places you look outside of London.

@stucknoue well I’ve managed to make it to the 3rd year of my degree so I think I’m all good.

London is really a collection of villages, each with its own character, rather than a homogenous blob

Yes it is. People know their own bit and it's very common to live for example in North London and not know South London at all. Each party has its own different feel.

I find Londoners chatty and open, just not at commuting times then it's heads down and get to work/ home.

It's a great place to live especially if you're singleSmile

** I see you have 2 kids.

You will need to travel in then. And forget London, accents EVERYWHERE, also tons of differentt languages . Sounds like you'll struggle.

I was actually in London this weekend! Loved it, and think it will be a good place to do my course. Yey again, I don’t struggle with all accents, just the northern ones.

I had a chat with next door about this earlier today! she commutes from Tunbridge Wells £10-14 daily dep on what time she goes in and she's convinced we should all be doing it

That’s really cheap. That’s about the same price as my commute I have now.
