Live in the South West where (normal not private) term finishes on the 25th October. We've done 6 long weeks and are all hanging already. Kids are shattered, mornings are a disaster zone. It's the worst half term for new starters an the transition. So why the hell is it 8 fricking weeks long?!! Who decides this shit? Pass me the stout eh.

I cant understand why the terms cant be evened out, the kids are bouncing off the walls teachers are fed up, its crazy
and i wish the bloody clocks didnt have to be altered as well totally stupid idea when we are supposed to be saving electric

SimonJT · 11/10/2019 16:50

My sons school half term starts Monday 21st, we’re in North London.

Aragog · 11/10/2019 16:50

We dont know how lucky we are in the UK with all these regular breaks for the kids.

I do think I prefer the six shorter terms with a regular, if short, break, than countries which do three long terms but with a long break between, especially in the summer.

AnguaResurgam · 11/10/2019 16:59

And there are no Bank Holidays to give a slightly longer weekend part way through.

I'd take a week off the summer holidays and have a two week half term.

ineedaholidaynow · 11/10/2019 17:01

DS’s old school had 2 week October half term

Witchend · 11/10/2019 17:04

If they broke up this week, think how long the next half term would be. I think it's better to have a shorter second half, especially this term when they end up too shattered to enjoy Christmas.

lazylinguist · 11/10/2019 17:06

Schools around here break up next Friday (well, Thursday for the dc as Friday is an INSET day), which makes this half term seven weeks and next half term 8 weeks. Seems like a reasonable split to me, but it's earlier than usual- half term is normally the last week in October.

Kaykay06 · 11/10/2019 17:09

Mine broke up today for October week, but we went back 20 August so boys we’re ready for a break but wish October was 2 weeks. I think going back after October till Christmas is a long time for them, they are ready for their Christmas break.

MirandaWest · 11/10/2019 17:14

Mine break up 25th October - we're in York. Normally have Halloween off. One of my colleagues is in a different part of the country and her children have broken up today. She says that 9 weeks after half term won’t be much fun (although they are enjoying reduced prices for a long weekend away this weekend!)

LoonyLunaLoo · 11/10/2019 17:20

We’re also in the North West and finish next Friday. Then we’ll be on a plane to Italy! Can’t wait 😀

cornishclottedcream · 11/10/2019 17:22

South West here. Teach in South Hams and we break up next Friday and my daughter's school in Plymouth finishes then as well. We are both fighting the 'just before holiday time' cold and so looking forward to having a break.

Kia123456 · 11/10/2019 17:22

I’m in Scotland and half term is next week. Seems too soon for me, especially since we’ve just at September weekend.

TeacupDrama · 11/10/2019 17:23

in scotland DD is on half term
autumn term was 15th august -5th October 7 weeks 2 days
winter term 21st October - 21st Decemeber 9 weeks ( monday 25th November off as in-service training
Spring term 6th Jan- 7th Feb 5 weeks and 17th feb -3rd April 7 weeks
Summer term 20th april -26th June no half terms just a long weekend around 26th May (Thurs, fri, monday) 10 weeks

The winter term is a long drag although summer term longer it is OK with the long weekend and trips sports days etc

user1483387154 · 11/10/2019 17:24

in western Europe we dont have a break till xmas . its frikkin crazy

ffswhatnext · 11/10/2019 17:29

The worse time of year September to December.
Was the hardest term ever.
Either holidays need to be better split. Or all the extra stuff should be split across the year. I think that's what doesn't help along with the reduced sun hours.

YaySeptember · 11/10/2019 17:33

Yabu. I'm skint and only just getting work in after the summer break (supply teacher) so because it's a long half term it gives me more time to earn money to spend on my kids' half term holidays. My dc are fine too. They're not tired or fed up yet either.

BrigitsBigKnickers · 11/10/2019 17:38

We have another two weeks till half term here...

PiggyPlumPie · 11/10/2019 17:39

Inset today and off for the next two weeks. NE Scotland

ljbrad · 11/10/2019 18:01

Be greatful you're not in Scotland - kids went back middle of August!

Wobblywibblywoo · 11/10/2019 18:08

Last day of term is 25th for us.

Lyricallie · 11/10/2019 18:17

The kids in my area finished up today for 2 weeks! I moved up here a few years ago and was so surprised. Apparently it is "tattie picking holiday" 😂

StoutDrinker2019 · 11/10/2019 18:23

Ha we are actually planning a move to scotland in the not to distant future! I'm dreading the winter short days but I quite like the idea of the holiday arrangements! Yay I won - so far! I am not being unreasonable, this half term just sucks big time for most of us! Looking forward to the festive build up though...it feels more bearable somehow with Xmas on the horizon.

Yorkshire and we're the same as you - knackered.com!! (Kids and staff)

yellowallpaper · 12/10/2019 10:20

I was thinking the same. We're all shattered already and have to wait until 25th too.

ibanez0815 · 12/10/2019 10:23

We dont know how lucky we are in the UK with all these regular breaks for the kids.

it's a bloody nightmare if you work and have to arrange childcare. Lucky, it ain't!
