Child using my front garden as a shortcut

Every single day two children (brother and sister 4 and 2) use my front garden as a shortcut.

I live on a corner house and they walk through to get to there road, their mum walks round the normal way.
I don’t like it as they walk right past my windows which feels like an invasion of privacy, they wind up the dog and it’s dangerous. One entrance is a driveway and there are high hedges all around the front garden, if the children are in the front garden I won’t see them when reversing my car.

I asked the mum to tell them to stop as it’s dangerous but they haven’t. AIBU to expect someone not to allow their children to do this?

,@VenusTiger
"I think those vile things are cruel, do we know how many birds, squirrels, owls, bats etc are effected by this high pitched noise and how far it travels?
I’ve listened to one (anti teenage device) and I can hear it clearly, it’s awful 😫 it’s like a tv left on standby."
If set to affect humans then it will not affect birds, squirrels, owls and bats. They have frequency and sensitivity settings on them to target a particular animal etc. They work well as deterrents.

If the children's mother is too ignorant to teach her children to respect other people's property then this may be a good way to do it.The ones that are available cheaply cover small areas and once you've heard one it should deter you from setting it off again. Trouble is it would affect other visitors to your property too. If you only had to use it a couple of times though to deter them, then it will be worth doing.

It isn't cruel. You just don't go too near one again...which is the whole aim of it.

What do you mean by it being like a TV left on standby? Does that make a noise? If so, I've not heard it and my TVs are always on standby.

We moved recently and the previous owners had put up a couple of posts linked by chains as apparently the dc who lived next door used to do this and run around playing on our driveway when they were younger and the parents wouldn’t stop them either. Maybe an option?

PurpleViolin · 14/10/2019 12:36

I agree stop them and send them out

custardbear · 14/10/2019 12:40

Stop them, send them back the way they came and tell them to have some respect for other people's properties, would they like it if you trampled through their bedrooms and squash all their toys

I'm only here to find out about that trellis

orangeicecream · 14/10/2019 15:42

Update eagerly anticipated.....?

hairyheadphones · 14/10/2019 15:48

Woohoo! The trellis worked!

I was sitting in an arm chair by the window and I could hear them coming. The boy started to walk through my garden, his mum did tell him not too but he did anyway. He walked right up to the trellis/bins blocking the way, realised he couldn’t get passed - saw me and then walked out slightly sheepishly.

Hopefully just a few days of doing this will stop the habit.

Awesome!
Bet there’s a thread on nethuns about an evil lady blocking their path from school

Well done

eternallybaffled · 14/10/2019 19:17

I'd have too much fun with this, I'd be standing in the corner of the garden deadly still like so.....

eternallybaffled · 14/10/2019 19:19

Clearly I'm an evil cow though joking 🙃

JustHereWithPopcorn · 15/10/2019 13:55

Hopefully that keeps them away for good now Grin
