to show off my Flower Power Festival cake? I can't share it IRL because the birthday girl hasn't seen it yet!

Made for a dear friend's 18 year old daughter. The birthday girl is gorgeous, a real ray of sunshine, and is thoroughly enjoying being 18 and going to festivals etc, so I wanted the cake to be really exuberant and joyful. Went a bit overboard and it looks like a cake shop broke into our house and threw up on a cake board Grin

I've done the birthday girl in her rainbow knitted coat (made by another family friend), red sunglasses and Doc Martens with yellow laces, and her beloved family dog!

Fabulous detail. I've not seen anything like this before. I love it.

How do we place online orders?! Seriously, if you don't already make celebration cakes for a living, you really should! I'll bet you can't wait to see the birthday girl's face when you present it? Please pop back and let us know her reaction.

Becles · 11/10/2019 14:26

Love it

MrsBungle · 11/10/2019 14:28

Looks fab!

Looks amazing! Excellent job. Very lucky recipient.

pigeononthegate · 11/10/2019 14:50

Moominmamma, I don't do it professionally, I started doing bonkers cakes when my kids were little and now people ask me to do them for their kids etc! I do love doing them.

I won't get to see her reaction, as the cake is going to a big family party at the other end of the country tomorrow which is when the birthday girl will see it. Her mum picked it up a couple of hours ago and it will spend the night in the car Grin

She is such a lovely girl, one of those people that just makes you smile when you think of her, so I wanted that to come across in her cake :)

Absolutely Fabulous,OP! I wish it a safe and smooth drive to its destination, and perhaps an update when it's presented to her?
And it certainly made me smileSmile

grumpypregnanttired · 11/10/2019 17:13

This is literally the cake of my dreams 😍

Yerbumsootthewindae · 11/10/2019 17:42

That cake is absolutely amazing! She will be made up!
I have a question - how did you get your rainbow like that? I made a rainbow a while back which never went solid so had to abandon my idea of it standing upright. Did you use flower paste or sugarpaste? Any advice would be gratefully received!!

Aposterhasnoname · 11/10/2019 17:45

That is amazing

Goawayquickly · 11/10/2019 17:47

What a happy cake! Love it!

Sewbean · 11/10/2019 17:56

You need a photo of her face when she sees it for the first time. It's amazing. I would be so so happy if someone went to the trouble of making me a cake like that. I wouldn't want to eat it.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 11/10/2019 18:00

I love your idea OP: my DDs would love that.

Do you have any other cake photos to show us?

pigeononthegate · 11/10/2019 19:48

yerbumsootthewindae, I mixed sugarpaste with a bit of this stuff called Sugarcel which is a gum tragacanth replacement and makes the icing go a bit stiffer, then let it dry overnight, then turned it over on a non-stick mat, covered the back in a thick layer of white chocolate and embedded 4 wooden skewers in the chocolate with the pointy ends sticking out downwards by about 3 inches, then popped in the fridge for an hour until set and then stood it up on the cake!

She stole my look from 2004. Unless we have gone back in time and changed to a parallel universe and this is MY 18th birthday cake?

pigeononthegate · 11/10/2019 19:59

These are a few more from the past few years!
