Mole removal

I'm on my way to have 2 moles removed, one from my neck and one from my hip.

I am shitting myself. I HATE needles and anything remotely surgical-y. I just want to cry.

AIBU to ask for a handhold for such a pathetic reason?

It's ok to be scared, it's natural. I'm sure it will all be ok but I'll be thinking of you. Sending positive thoughts. 🤗

I’ve had 2 removed too. It was very very quick, and the numbing needle is over so quickly. I found closing my eyes and breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth- try to make each breath last for 10 seconds - count it. Sounds silly but it gives you something else to focus on and the slower deep breathing helps to calm your brain and reduce physical stress feelings. I was in and out in under 10 minutes. X

I've had a couple removed too. V quick procedure with easy recovery.

Try to breathe in for 4 and out for 5 or longer, it will help to calm you and slow your heart rate. If you're worried, speak to the doctor/nurse, they will explain things and help to keep you calm.

I had four removed from my back.... was wetting myself but it was fine in the end - during, and after. I couldn't sleep that night thinking the pain would kick in but it didn't!!!

I had one removed on my neck, I was really scared but honestly it was over and done with before I even realised :) the worst part was them numbing it first. Good luck.

MorganKitten · 11/10/2019 10:08

I had two removed, it doesn’t hurt at all. Took 20mins if that!

fedup21 · 11/10/2019 10:10

Ooh, good luck-it will be over before you know it!

I had one removed about 20 years ago which was on my bra line and kept getting caught-the GP referred me to the hospital and it was removed on the NHS-it was over in seconds and I can’t see a scar now.

I have one on my face that is getting bigger and sticky out and I hate it. Can I ask where you’re having this done (Spire?), how much it cost and what the scar might be like-have they said?

goose1964 · 11/10/2019 10:14

I had one removed last year. The worst bit was the initial local anaesthetic but I'm sure that was because it was directly over my spine. Once the second one was done the skin was already numb. The procedure is quick and I felt well enough to go home on the bus.

After that I had to be careful about raising my arms and couldn't do heavy lifting for, I think, a month. No pain though.

Good luck OP! I've had several removed over the years and they've all been fine! Do tell them that you're so nervous as they will be able to help you better.
Fedup21 I had a large facial sticky out mole removed a few months ago. I had it removed at a spire clinic. It cost about £500. Its left an indented scar but I'm so so happy its gone!! Best advice I can give is to get it removed asap as the bigger it gets the bigger the scar will be. Good luck!

fedup21 · 11/10/2019 10:22

I did a search with Spire and found this!

Thanks everyone! Please to say I did not cry and I am sporting some fetching plasters. I will milk the gin and sympathy later tho.

Well done x

boringisasboringdoes · 11/10/2019 10:26

Be over really quickly. They are experts and will have done hundreds / thousands of these.

I just had two removed from my face - no problem at all. Also you'll probably hardly feel the needle on your lower half - don't think it's a particularly sensitive area is it?

JorisBonson · 11/10/2019 10:27

@fedup21thid was an NHS procedure - I had a genuinely worrying one on my hip, and my consultant was brilliant and arranged to get the one on my neck removed too as it caught on collars etc. It's quite difficult to get these on the NHS any more without a medical concern, I'm just lucky I got a great consultant.

Sorry cross post

boringisasboringdoes · 11/10/2019 10:33

@fedup21

These are my benign mole removal scars after a month (shaved by a plastic surgeon) they should fade as well in time.

The vertical lines are frown lines for scale. Please excuse my pores/wrinkles haha. I'm very pleased to have got rid of the raised moles, there's apparently a risk they could come back with a shave but I decided to try this way first.
