AIBU to be annoyed that our communal recycling bin hasn't been emptied

We live in a block of 6 flats. We have communal waste bins, 1 is for recyclable stuff, 1 is for non-recyclable and the other is food waste. The recycling bin has not been emptied because neighbours have chosen to put plastic bags into it - the bin men won't take this, the council's website says that we can report it but it still won't get taken until the next due date for recycling bins to be taken which is 2 weeks time.

AIBU to put a note up on the notice board in the communal hall way asking people to be mindful where they put their rubbish/recycling?

For what it's worth, there are 2 families with more than 1 child in them, 1 with 1 child, and 3 households with adults in them - the waste recycling facilities have never taken into account the amount of people living here, if we all had separate bins, this wouldn't be an issue. I feel like we're being penalised because others can't be bothered to sort their rubbish out adequately. We live in a flat, we don't have room to keep our recycling for 2 whole weeks.

I realise this post is probably far longer than it needed to be, I'm just really fed up....

Personally I would put a note up including the information about what can and what can't be recycled.

In the meantime if you can't keep all your recycling until the next collection day, can't you recycle it locally, our local supermarkets all have bins for paper, bottles, shoes, clothes, batteries etc.

Who are you annoyed at, the council for not providing you individual bins, or the people that contaminated the recycling bins?

Honestly, I'm more annoyed with the people contaminating the bins - it's not exactly rocket science. However, I do think the council have a small part to play as they've not really taken into account the extra rubbish bigger households are putting into the bins. A few years ago, there was only 1 family living here with a small child, now there are an extra couple of households and that's an extra 6 kids.

I understand that I can go to the supermarket to take my recycling, but, A/ I don't actually go to the supermarket often, B/I don't drive, my husband does but he leaves for work at 7.10am and C/why should I have to just because other people are lazy gits who can't use their brains to figure out what's right and what's wrong?

It's just frustrating, that's all! People in houses get their own bins, our bins are probably not big enough to cater for 6 families, I'd say, the size of them was probably comparable to 3 blue bins that you'd get for a house, which obviously means we're about 3 bin sizes too small (if you see what I mean!)

Have a word with your council and ask them to do a review of bin provision at the property because of more households/an issue with contamination. They’ll assess and decide if they can provide you with extra bins, and if not then they should contact households to advise them of what they should be putting in the bins, and keep an eye on who’s responsible.

Ours was very good when we had a similar issue and the neighbours were fucking mental unapproachable.
