Couldn't believe he was on TV earlier talking about WMHD...
What a bloody hypocrite.
I wonder of he and Russell Brand were thinking about Andrew Sachs and his families mental health when they made that stupid vile prank phone call. AIBU to be 😡...?

YANBU. Despicable bullying from the pair of them, I've never liked or watched him since then.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 10/10/2019 20:57

Knew it'd be about that before I opened the thread!
No, I don't think you ABU.
I remember that "prank", it was horrible.
Then again, haven't we all been unthinking idiots over the years?
(That phone call was never funny though)

Elderflower14 · 10/10/2019 20:59

I completely agree it needs to be discussed but pick more suitable people to talk about it surely??

Okay. I do agree with you in the sense that it was an odd choice for JR to promote mental health awareness week.

But that was ten years ago. Times have changed, we are all much more educated about mental health now and I'm happy to give him a second chance, which is he handling very well.

Re Russell Brand... lets not forget he was a sex addict back in the day. He'll know what it's like to have a mental health condition!

Let's try to be a bit more open minded and kinder!

Northernlurker · 10/10/2019 21:09

Eh? So being an arse ten years ago disqualifies you from ever speaking about mental health? Only those who've never made a pigs ear of their lives are fit to express an opinion? Ummmmmm might be a problem there.

What was he saying or were you so busy frothing in rage you missed hearing?

The80sweregreat · 10/10/2019 21:15

The prank they played on Andrew Sachs wasn't at all funny , but Ross was suspended from his job and Brand resigned from the BBC and they said sorry and it was a long time ago now. We all do stupid things and I hope that Andrew and his granddaughter have moved on too.
Ross has been on tv since and still seems popular so why should t he do something for this cause? I'm not a fan of either of them but they did do their time over it all and nobody died , thankfully! Some celebs have done a lot worse!

PristineCondition · 10/10/2019 21:20

It was ten years ago.
Should we be never be allowed to move on from mistakes?

MrsMattMurdock · 10/10/2019 21:25

I think I would only have the energy to hold a grudge for 10 years if it was about something which directly affected me or someone I cared about.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 10/10/2019 21:46

It was ten years ago

Shock 10 years ago? How?! Shit seems like five minutes ago!! (suddenly feels well old) Sorry, as you were....
AGermFreeAdolescent · 10/10/2019 22:08

Off topic but ITV has recently aired an advert about mental health and I thought that was pretty rich, from a channel whose daily staple consists of the Jeremy Kyle show until it got pulled for bullying a man to suicide, Good Morning Britain with the bellowing Piers Morgan, X factor and Britain's got Talent which constantly belittles and bullies contestants and two soaps which are always full of conflict and nasty behaviour (though that is acting so probably shouldn't be included, but still).

BadnessInTheFolds · 10/10/2019 23:08

As pp have said it was 10 years ago, they both apologised and the call wasn't particularly related to mental health iirc. I.e. they weren't mocking Andrew Sachs' (or anyone else's) mental health condition. They were 'just' being stupid and vulgar

I'm not saying that makes the original calls ok, just that it has nothing to do with WMHD either way.
