Seriously.
I’m away at the moment, popular-Ish place in the north uk. Lovely scenery, mountains, you know.
We come from a fairly hectic ex-industrial town so this is a pleasure usually, and we come here once every few months when work allows. But for a while now I’ve been noticing it just doesn’t seem to chill anyone out at all.
Why the fuck go on holiday to a peaceful, scenic idyl and just be angry and shitty all the time?
Every walk, every shop someone pushes you out of the way, no apologies, just misery-faces, stress, hostility.
I’m not premenstrual ffs, this is a fairly accurate picture of what I’m witnessing these past few months. Even in the off season.

Nobody seems relaxed or pleased to be away.
Cars screeching through tiny village center, shouting, screaming, herds or stressed angry faces.
Did I enter another universe or are people just so pissed off in general these days that I ought to have mercy>?

People in cottage next door leave poor hogs howling and distressed for 6-8 hours per day - its depressing.

Well, I guess I’ve been noticing this and decided it was time to vent!

“Nobody seems relaxed or pleased to be away”.

The people you mention most likely aren’t away though. They’re probably locals. Life has stresses no matter how beautiful the environment.

You need a new holiday venue! Perhaps a bit more isolated and less touristy! You will be welcomed with open arms if you buy gifts for family etc from them as that’s supporting rural communities. What about an island?

RainingFrogsAndHats · 09/10/2019 21:46

Fuff?

Perunatop · 09/10/2019 21:48

Are you in Ambleside by any chance?

HopeClearwater · 09/10/2019 21:49

We’re living in dire, uncertain and unpredictable times politically and economically. Maybe you’re seeing what that looks like in the general population?

DanielRicciardosSmile · 09/10/2019 21:50

Have to admit to snorting at the image of howling hogs.

As to your main point, maybe it's the weather?

DeathStare · 09/10/2019 21:50

Maybe they aren't away. Maybe this is their home - full of the usual day to day stresses.

DeathStare · 09/10/2019 21:51

Are you in Ambleside by any chance?

Ha ha I was going to guess at Bowness!

ranibowsprimkle · 09/10/2019 21:51

Probably locals fed up of the tourists Grin

I used to live in a little village similar to what you've described and honestly at this time of year ,when you think it's all finally calming down then you get the October holiday influx, it feels like you're never going to get peace and quite ever again.

That is a shame about the dogs though and I'd be tempted to report them to the police or the rspca/sspca

Velveteenfruitbowl · 09/10/2019 21:52

Are you in a walking area? They may have over exerted themselves on the walls and become cranky as a result?

Runningmyultra · 09/10/2019 21:53

It's not a great time to be living in the UK tbh

Musicforsnorks · 09/10/2019 21:54

Hah yes I do certainly consider the economic/politic state of things - my home town is like a mirror of this already. But this odd holiday related hostility may not be new, perhaps I am only just noticing it.

Do they come here with expectation that don’t live up to the ideal? Perhaps.

In answer to the question, these are not locals.

It is near Ambleside!
We skip that, the fucking pavements are so small it’s impossible. 😁

It’s mostly in bustling areas, shops, people shopping. People in cars, etc.

Not walkers or locals.

It perhaps is too touristy. We used to come more in winter.

And I agree, the uk is pissed off. I don’t blame it. How related it is to this I can’t say. Worth considering.

Is there a prize for the first person to blame Brexit?
