Getting black box insurance when partner doesnt want to

Weve just bought a new car, its a 1.8 turbo and as younger drivers (22) insurance without a black box is quite pricey.

We'd both be on the policy, although im the one paying for it and am the main dricer( he paid for the other smaller car - this car is larger and more family friendly) and with a black box is £900 for the year, without its £1400. No brainer for me, i dont drive like an idiot so figured just get the cheapest!

Partner is adamant he doesnt want a black box, hes not been driving long, about 3 months, which is why im also wanting to steer toward the blackbox also so he doesnt rag this new car about! Hes excited to have a powerful car compared to the fiesta, which i almost think all the more reason to have a box in it!

Opinions? Aibu to go with the black box one? Its just so much cheaper and seems like a no brainer but partner has the hump about it. He will use the car on weekends when we all go out together, as he uses the smaller car for work, so car will be with me all week anyway!

You fail to mention option 2.
No black box = DP told he does not get to drive the car as he will not be on the insurance.
Simples!

Get the black box and make sure he never, ever drives it.
