Just wondering

Depends men and women feel it differently men can describe it as crushing pain in the chest and arm and some women get back pain

eosmum · 08/10/2019 17:01

Google symptoms there is a vast array. Different for men and women.

eosmum · 08/10/2019 17:02

Posted too soon. My mum had what she thought was a kidney infection and tummy bug. She’d had two heart attacks.

TheMustressMhor · 08/10/2019 17:04

Do you think you're having one?

AllStarBySmashMouth · 08/10/2019 17:05

My Dad had one and didn't realise until he was unconscious. Thought he just had bad heartburn. Sometimes it doesn't present itself the way you think.

GinDaddy · 08/10/2019 17:06

@LifeonVenus I'm sure you mean well but this "just wondering" could come across as flippant

Perhaps some people on here have either suffered it, and could find this upsetting; or have recently lost family to this health event.

Not trying to poke or anything but is this just a curiosity post? As @eosmum said, there is a myriad of information on Google including NHS approved pages with symptoms. Your curiosity may be better sated there.

IsobelRae23 · 08/10/2019 19:09

If you believe you may be suffering one, please call 999 immediately

nocoolnamesleft · 08/10/2019 19:10

If you think you might be experiencing one, you need to be in A&E. Now.

Apologies, no, wasn't trying to upset someone. I think I had one.

My brother helpfully (and possibly wisely) told me that if I'm able to have a hissy fit, it's probably not a heart attack.

First things first - if you think you've had a heart attack, ffs get yourself to A&E or you may die.

When I summoned the ambulance for what I thought was a heart attack, after doing an ECG which showed I wasn't having an attack at the time the ECG was ongoing, the paramedic told me he didn't think I was because I didn't "look like shit", which he clarified as grey and listless due to lack of enough blood moving around. Significant symptom that isn't on the list.

My whatever it was matched the NHS symptoms page almost perfectly, but turned out to be some still unknown other thing. I have had four followup checks to make sure it isn't heart - the A&E full ECGs and blood tests, sonar scan, three day heartbeat tracker, one day blood pressure tracker. The NHS takes this stuff seriously.

Lindy2 · 08/10/2019 22:24

If you think you've had one you need to go straight to a&e.
Your heart could still be being damaged and you need medical attention.

Twirlypoos · 08/10/2019 22:27

Of course you can have a hissy fit.

DH first one had mild indigestion and felt ‘uncomfortable’ diagnosed at drs as muscle strain 😡 had stents

Second felt fluey grumpy and mild ingestion. Had stents

third turned grey in tescos collapsed half way round, no pain just wobbly legs, had CABG

Twirlypoos · 08/10/2019 22:28

Please phone 999 you need to be seen Flowers

Reallybadidea · 08/10/2019 22:28

The most recent research shows that men and women don't have significantly different symptoms. The most common symptom for both men and women is chest pain. Breathlessness, pain in the jaw, back and/or arm and nausea may be experienced by either sex.

giggleshizz · 08/10/2019 22:32

DF had one. Was acting strange and confused and complained of back ache but it took 24 hours for us to realise something was seriously wrong and call an ambulance. If you think you've had/having one, the sooner you seek medical help the better.

LifeonVenus · 09/10/2019 18:34

What are stents?

Twirlypoos · 09/10/2019 19:04

Why are you asking these questions?

tillytoodles1 · 09/10/2019 19:12

Why do you want to know? I could ask my H, but sadly he never spoke again after he collapsed and died!

0lga · 09/10/2019 19:14

Is your brother a doctor ?

If not, ignore him and get medical advice. Stop pissing about on MN

CAG12 · 09/10/2019 19:20

This thread is so odd. Why are you asking all these questions? Im assuming you're sensible enough to call an ambulance if you were actually having one. So whats actually going on here?

ginandbearit · 09/10/2019 19:24

Mine was the day after I looked and felt fterrible ..no pain, just tired and looked terrible ..white face, puffy ....

Went home after work , slept really well for a change, was working from home that morning and started getting electric shock type jolts (but mild ) across my back and into shoulder blade ...knew this wasnt good so off to nearby a&e , admitted on a Tuesday , heart attack confirmed , angiogram showed small artery blocked but larger one getting furred up so double stented Wednesday home on Saturday . Felt tired for a few days but otherwise vastly improved health ever since ..would recommend angiogram to anyone as a precautionary test anytime.

Walkerbean16 · 09/10/2019 19:26

My mums felt like indigestion, she was drowning Gaviscon when I got there and phoned for an ambulance for her.

Greywalls12 · 09/10/2019 19:31

I'm a cardiac nurse. What do you mean you think you had one? Untreated heart attacks are likely to continue to do damage.
If you are having chest pain, call an ambulance.
