I've always had pretty low self esteem, terrible with confrontation and never really discovered my own opinion on things until I got some space from my parents, who are pretty dysfunctional people and very much our way or the high way.

I'm finding myself getting more frustrated because I won't challenge a lot of things that I think is wrong or disagree with. I don't want to go around having arguments with everyone but my dc are toddlers and slowly becoming aware of what's being said and I don't want them to struggle with confrontation in the same way and think that I feel certain behaviour and comments are acceptable because I don't speak up.

Recent examples this week...

Been going through redundancy consultation at work, manager wasn't turning up to my meetings and being a bit of a cunt in general. When I took it higher and saw him next he was on the defensive and told me some lame excuse for his appalling behaviour I just smiled and nodded along. Instead of saying "actually manager I was pretty appalled that you behaved like that, I deserve better and it was very unprofessional."

MIL talking about FILs driving ban, "it's ridiculous, it's not like it's for safety purposes, he was barely speeding"....me again sat silently not saying anything. Inwardly I want to say "of course it's for safety reasons, ridiculous thing to say!!! FIL is not above the law."

Price on till for item came up more expensive, I know the ticket was at a much lower price and I still go ahead and pay the higher price.

Confident people, how do you do it?!
