I'm currently re-watching One Tree Hill and the song in question was just used in an episode at a sporting event. The season was first shown in 2006, round about the time Glitter was being convicted for what happened in Vietnam. I don't remember a huge uproar then.
I've seen Joker. In the context of the story, the time period it's set in and the scene itself, the song really works. And unless you're going to avoid all artistic output by anyone with a less than savoury past, then this 'moral outcry' really just smacks of hypocrisy. After all John Lennon was a wife beater. Jimmy Page, Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler, David Bowie, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Anthony Kiedis, Marvin Gaye and Iggy Pop are all rumoured to have had relationships with underage girls. Look at Michael Jackson for heavens sake!
