To be annoyed my nephew introduced my son to vaping

Already posted about this but it’s really angered my that my nephew has introduced my son to vaping and my sister doesn’t care. For some background, my nephew has adhd and apparently the nicotine helps him as he doesn’t want meds. If anybody can enlighten me to whether this is true then please go ahead as I don’t know how vaping can help adhd to be honest. My son has now started to have a slight addiction as he has said he ‘craves’ it. He’s only done it on 3 periods apparently but I don’t know how many times or what is in it other than nicotine. My sister won’t tell her son to stop giving it to mine so I don’t know what to do,

Yeah at 13 that's absolutely not on. It's illegal for a start.

I agree you need to focus on your own child and deal with it the same way you would if he'd got it from any source. Of course it "feels mint", it's an addictive brain altering substance :o that's literally the point - but they are age restricted for a reason, and although it's likely vaping is less harmful than smoking we don't actually know that - so it ought to be treated as just as harmful as a precaution.

ADHD medications are stimulants, nicotine is a mild stimulant. It's similar to caffeine.

But this is irrelevant as it's your nephew who has ADHD not your son?

TriciaH87 · 07/10/2019 18:55

Report her for suppling it to a person under 18.

MyKingdomForBrie · 07/10/2019 19:10

I would be to moving any kind of privileges until this behaviour absolutely stops. He is much too young to be making choices like that.

WorraLiberty · 07/10/2019 19:17

That's not against the law as long as she didn't sell it to him.

imclaustrophobicdarren · 07/10/2019 20:16

Time to parent. Sorry if that sounds harsh but no way on earth I'd stand for that. I'd cut contact with my sister too if need be.

Gfplux · 07/10/2019 20:19

There is growing evidence that Vaping is dangerous. A number of deaths have been reported.
Perhaps Google “vaping dangers”

Ilikecheese789 · 07/10/2019 20:23

Yes it’s my nephew with adhd which is why his mum lets him vape as it’s like meds’ but he doesn’t like the effect of the medication so he uses nicotine.

Who is paying for it? I'd stop all money to your Ds and I would stop unsupervised contact with DN. At least if you're there when they meet up with family, you can stop your son from vaping. If it were my child I'd go through their room with a fine tooth comb and bin any vaping products I found.

PoptartPoptart · 07/10/2019 20:26

In a sense it doesn’t matter if it’s dangerous or not. They are 13 and 14 respectively. It is illegal.

Ilikecheese789 · 07/10/2019 20:27

He uses my nephews vape as far as I know and I believe they’ve been using it at school aswell but I can’t ring school without getting my nephew excluded. I fear I will find his own vape if I searched his room but I think I will have a good look.

Nicotine itself is harmful. It can increase vascular damage and bring forward cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis leading to strokes and heart attacks.

Letting a minor do something so harmful is irresponsible of your sister.

ZenNudist · 07/10/2019 20:32

Its not the unregulated nature of the oil causing lung disease in young adults who have vaped regularly. Its the oil itself.

National health England have been slow to clamp down because their policy is to get people off cigarettes and on to vaping. The fact that people think its safe is causing non smokers to take up vaping. Lung disease is no laughing matter. Pneumonia will kill you. Quickly. Its really not worth the risk.

YesQueen · 07/10/2019 20:35

It's not oil. There is no oil in it. None, whatsoever

Helpmestartagain · 07/10/2019 20:41

No one has any idea about the medium to longterm damage of vaping.

Ilikecheese789 · 07/10/2019 20:42

To be honest I’m not all that educated on vaping but I am on nicotine and i know it’s quite bad. I’m worried he’s doing the thc oil aswell

How else can I go about this situation other than not letting them see each other because I doubt it will work

What punishments has your son had for choosing to vape? Or are we goibg down the route that dn forced the vape into his mouth?

BertieBotts · 07/10/2019 21:27

I would absolutely let the school know. Your sister is being ridiculous letting her child self medicate for adhd. If he doesn't like the side effects of the medication he has tried he should discuss it with a doctor and try different ones, how is randomly self medicating with a drug he's too young to legally buy safer than that? Or appropriate. If she really believes it's medically beneficial perhaps she can get the doctor to sign off on him having special permission to use it. I doubt this BTW. But it probably isn't only your son he's sharing it with, so the school are likely to get involved at some point.

Ilikecheese789 · 07/10/2019 21:39

I am sure he will be sharing it.

I've just googled and it appears that Britain had it's first vaping death just a few days ago.

ImNotYourGranny · 07/10/2019 21:41

Sorry, it hit the news a few days ago. Not he died a few days ago.

fripp · 07/10/2019 21:44

I've just googled and it appears that Britain had it's first vaping death just a few days ago. No it didn't for fuck's sake. Someone died 10 years ago and there was no cause given.
I don't think I've ever read a more misinformed and ridiculous thread than this and that's saying something.

fripp · 07/10/2019 21:45

And it was old news, I remember the daily mail sad face at the time.

And The Times reported a few days ago the findings by the MHRA that vaping has been linked to 200 health complaints from heart disorders to pneumonia which include the man who passed away in 2010 and said he was the first death attributed to vaping. So for fuck's sake yourself, maybe you need to read something other than the Daily Mail.
