To be concerned about my DS’s pooing?

My DS has about 4 or 5 poos a day, sometimes more...
He’s turning one in 10 days time and I’m changing so many nappies a day. They’re really bad poos as well, they smell bad and there’s a lot of them...not loose, not solid either. Like putty, bits of undigested food in there sometimes (sorry)
Is this normal? I feel like he shouldn’t be going THIS often?
It’s stopping me from wanting to go out and about on my own with him, as he’s a nightmare to change now that he’s walking and just tries to get away, ending up with poo all over him.
He has nappy rash too.
He has a very big appetite and eats a lot. He’s still having 3 bottles a day and 3 meals plus 2 snacks.

Anything that I need to be concerned about?

Has he always been a bit loose? Undigested food is common. Can just be general transit time is a bit fast.

Does he eat a lot of fruit & salady stuff (raw carrot sticks?

Does he drink any juice?

CathyandHeathcliff · 07/10/2019 16:47

@NoIDontWatchLoveIsland water mainly, but apple juice very occasionally.
He does eat some salady bits like cucumber and cherry tomato but that’s about it.
He eats a lot of fruit and loves dairy like cheese and yogurt.

Also loves fish, chicken, pasta, bread, pancakes and potato.
So basically fruit, protein and carbs!

Potentially not enough fat in his diet.

Lots of fruit can make your poos loose. Maybe cut back on fruit for a little bit.

@TakeMeToYourLiar what would be good to bring more fats in? He does have a lot of cheese.

Our little boy had simular at age 4. Turned out he had an impacted bowel. The loose poo is basically the stuff that can get around the blockage. We didn't see a doctor for a couple of months - did not realise there was a problem. He was not constipated as poo was coming out. If you see a gp they can check for this. If this is the problem, the longer it goes on, the longer it can take to get back to normal once blockage gone as the bowel has stretched. He had to take some laxative to clear the blockage, and a maintenence dose for a few months after. Might not be this, but thought would identify it ad a possibility.

Quite normal at that age I think! Especially when still on a lot of milk. I'd worry of this was happening when he's 4, but not when he's not even 1 yet. At that age my DS poo'd frequently! He's a one poo a day boy now at age 7, and has been for a few years!!

Ps. He's only small and if he wasn't poo'ing so much, where would all that food be being stored!? Don't worry about it!! :)
