To have smoked the towels

Happy discovery; burning incense in the (very small) spare room next to freshly washed bath towels and shutting the door results in gorgeous smelling towels.

WIBU to do this when guests stay so their towels smell all posh and naice?

I don't burn incense often, environment and all

Dont see why not on occasion

Merryoldgoat · 06/10/2019 20:22

Personally I like towels that smell freshly washed and hate incense.

KizzyWayfarer · 06/10/2019 20:24

Do it to give yourself pleasure, not for guests as they might dislike the smell!

Lockheart · 06/10/2019 20:29

Burning things next to fabric is also a massive fire hazard. As long as you're in the room keeping an eye on it knock yourself out. But please don't leave fabric hanging next to burning stuff and leave the room.

Not wanting to scaremonger, but I was thinking about buying some incense the other day, but then saw there was quite a lot of research linking it to lung cancer. Apparently it releases nasty particles into the air.

icanhearapindrop · 06/10/2019 20:43

Ooh, no! I would hate towels smelling of incense. I used to love it, but now think it’s a horrible smell.

OoohRhubarbLetsGo · 06/10/2019 20:44

Yuck no, I’d hate this as a guest. Do it for your own towels, if you eliminate all fire risk.

CormacMcLaggen · 06/10/2019 20:45

So aside from lung cancer, burning the house down or offending guests with smells they dislike, it's all good.

I love MN Grin

Mumsnet puts me off ever having guests because everyone is so fussy!

ButDoYouAvocado · 06/10/2019 21:27

I think it sounds nice. Hazards aside. 🤣

ButDoYouAvocado · 06/10/2019 21:28

Hope you don't die of lung cancer btw

FizzyGreenWater · 06/10/2019 21:31

No, towels should smell fresh, that's pretty much a given.

The reason you like it is because you did it yourself. To a guest they'd just smell like something's happened to them - that they'd been used already or stored for ages somewhere perfumey. YUK.

Freshly laundered.

inwood · 06/10/2019 21:32

I wouldn't want incense smelling towels, I like fresh towels!

BusySittingDown · 06/10/2019 21:32

Am I the only one who clicked on this thread thinking "how the hell do you smoke a towel?!!!"

CormacMcLaggen · 06/10/2019 21:33

I could offer my guests a choice: smoked or unsmoked.

Incense isn’t a type of smell, it’s the material that burns. There are different types...
It’s dangerous, though, OP.

CatsOnCatnip · 06/10/2019 21:41

I thought you’d ran out of fags. Disappointed.

CormacMcLaggen · 06/10/2019 21:47

CatsOnCatnip gave up my towel habit years ago, I'm afraid.

Grin

I’ve stopped smoking and got excited when I saw your title.

Mother87 · 06/10/2019 22:11

Yes "smoked or unsmoked" like a pillow-menuGrinwe burn Chinese incense daily for 'cultural' reasons... so am biased...

EmmiJay · 06/10/2019 22:32

Shock Look what I'm doing tomorrow after the school run. What a fantastic idea!

CTRL · 06/10/2019 22:35

Don’t know why this question made me LOL so much. Grin

Smoke them towels OP ! Smile

clairethewitch70 · 06/10/2019 22:37

Didn't think of lung cancer. I use incense three times a day. On my altar, my shrine and I censer the house

Whoops75 · 06/10/2019 22:39

Scented candles, incense and plug in air fresheners all very bad for the lungs.

DontCallMeShitley · 06/10/2019 22:50

I use unperfumed laundry stuff and avoid carcinogens, smoke and smells. Particularly smoky smells. Incense is very clingy.
