To wait until tomorrow to go A&E?

DS11 injured his hand today and has a suspected scaphoid fracture (wrist). He went to a walk-in clinic earlier today who made the above diagnosis but didn't have Xray facilities.

Should I take him to A&E on a Sunday Night, to get it treated ASAP or would it be better to wait till first thing in the morning? It's been strapped and he is not in pain.

If the diagnosis is confirmed he will need a cast - would they do that tonight or would he have to go back tomorrow?

We went to Minor Injuries rather than A and E though - is that an option for you?

I'd go now, @narisha99 - mine swelled up before I went and it meant it healed badly and it took a lot of visits before they were happy to cast it!

Just a thought - if he mentions at school that he went to bed with a fracture and didn't go to hospital until the morning, it might result in a Social Services referral (which would be -completely unwarranted- a cautious reaction by the school). Personally I would have pulled out all the stops to get him to A & E tonight, if only to cover myself.

On a Sunday I prepared for a long wait however it was really quiet and we were seen, X-ray and splint within and hour! Hope it’s the same for my you

Take him tonight. He needs urgent assessment and treatment. The issue is not how busy a and e is likely to be.

We went when DD broke her wrists and she was in casts that night was about 6 hours before we left. Appointment for fracture clinic came a couple of days later
