Side hussle! £250/£500 extra each month?

Silvertincan · 06/10/2019 08:36

Hello, looking for advice after DP and I realised that with £500 extra each month we could meet all of our savings goals in 10months!!

Looking for inspiration as to how we could do this, I'm thinking £250 each per month, so around £60 a week!

AIBU or is this totally do-able on top of two full time jobs?

Thanks Grin

I knew matched betting would come up. I am going to try to understand this better because I’m so tempted to try it.
For extra cash I always think of offering childcare. So babysitting or occasional nannying if you have time. I guess it’s whatever skills you have and just making a bit extra with any time you have.
It’s impressive that you have made this plan. That’s a huge step. I’m not great at that and I’m a single mum but it sounds so organised that you’ve got together and seen what you need.
Ironing and cleaning are other ways of making extra cash that I have done.

Cut grass for people £25 per hour or do gardening if you are knowledgeable.

Anotheruser02 · 06/10/2019 10:30

The shop a day late thing is such a good idea.

3luckystars · 06/10/2019 10:38

3000 to 4000 a month doing translation? Part time?? That's amazing.

SachaStark · 06/10/2019 10:55

I was always intrigued by matched betting, but then put off as you have to calculate your stakes and lay bets, etc, and I’m not very capable with maths. However, I then found out from the Money Matters thread that Team Profit exists with tutorials and a calculator app and everything!

I started matched betting this week, and I’ve already made £36 net profit following their guides to the welcome offers. However, you have to have a bit of spare money to start, as if your lay bet doesn’t win, you have to deposit more money into the betting exchange to be able to lay bets with liability.

Amazon Flex?

OhTheRoses · 06/10/2019 11:08

DD writes for specialist catalogues. Researches the subjects. Earns about £60 pw for about 4 to 6 items. Presently working on plants and pests.

Can you do anything on reducing spending. Daily flask instead of coffees, packed lunch etc. Can work out at at a min of £5 per day. Walking two bus stops - another couple of pounds.

FurrySlipperBoots · 06/10/2019 11:23

2 babysitting sessions a week for £10ph, minimum 3 hours, and you're sorted!

BarbaraofSeville · 06/10/2019 11:29

Yes, make sure you have reviewed all your costs too - change gas and electricity, broadband etc. You can often get £150 for changing your bank account.

Cut out juice, pop etc and drink plain tea, coffee or water. Definitely cut down or cut out food and drink outside the house. Some people spend hundreds of pounds a month on this sort of stuff.

But babysitting is probably a good earner, and there is likely to be lots of demand when Christmas party season starts.

Don’t touch MLM and that includes Avon. Search MN and you’ll find some of the problems with the multilevel marketing “opportunity”, it really doesn’t work selling product and the only way is to recruit people but even that’s flawed. Over 99% of participants lose money. And Avon has a poor track record on animal testing.

SunshineAngel · 06/10/2019 11:40

I earned £400 with matched betting, and my partner did the same. Once the welcome offers are done though, you're mainly relying on other offers coming through - which they do, sometimes, but it's certainly not a reliable monthly income, I don't think.

Do you have any skills? I work from home as a full time writer, editor and proofreader on PeoplePerHour.com and while it is my full time job, you can absolutely just take on work as and when you want it.

BenWillbondsPants · 06/10/2019 11:48

I used to do Avon years ago. Be aware that they have now gone back to testing on animals and that matters to a lot of people. I don't buy from them anymore for this reason and a lot of my friends don't either.

BlackCatSleeping · 06/10/2019 11:49

I think if you are already working long hours, then it would be easier trying to cut back on spending rather than trying to earn more money.

dickiedavisthunderthighs · 06/10/2019 11:54

Don't do Avon or Bodyshop from home - they're MLMs and you have to pay out regular whacks just to stay 'active'. You'll lose more than you'll ever make.

TheMustressMhor · 06/10/2019 11:57

Worried that two PP have suggested MLMs.

maddiemookins16mum · 06/10/2019 12:02

Sign up to do research surveys. I made £67 in Sept/Oct. Every little helps. I take my ipad to work and do a couple during my lunch hour. Average time - 25 mins to complete.

gostiwooz · 06/10/2019 12:07

Stop buying newspapers and magazines, don't buy takeaways, drink less, stop eating chocolate crisps and sweets, take a packed lunch to work, walk more for short trips instead of taking the car, cut your own hair, visit Aldi and Lidl more often, only buy new clothes when your current ones are worn out, sell everything you don't actually need... shall I carry on or is that a bit much already?!

OtraCosaMariposa · 06/10/2019 12:10

Definitely not MLM in any way, shape or form.

And not anything writing, translating related seeing as the OP thinks "hussle" is a word.

PiggyPokkyFool · 06/10/2019 12:10

I second @maddiemookins16mum - I have been doing this for 7 years and I earn about £250-£300pm doing online surveys in the evening and on the way to and from work. It is NOT easy money - you have to put in an hour or two but you can often get on communities which mean you earn some very nice amounts for the time required.
These are good:
My favourites : You Gov as you never screen out -

yougov.co.uk/refer/5n4orle6y-iGn-xFyNEk-w/

Second favourite: Swagbucks. I earn a lot here but sometimes screen out too.
www.swagbucks.com/p/register?rb=59151827

Third: Panelbase : www.panelbase.net/register
I had £120 from a home test from this site last month - very easy money but that much is rare! more like £10/£20 for at home trials.

Ones to avoid Lifepoints, Valued Opinions and Toluna - a real waste of time.

1300cakes · 06/10/2019 12:16

I would try to cut back on spending. If you havent already cut right back there is

  • saving on supermarket shopping (cheaper brands, more veg less meat, etc)
  • not buying coffee, lunch, magazines
  • cutting back on alcohol
  • looking for cheaper deals on utilities
chuckeeee · 06/10/2019 12:22

@SachaStark but you've won with the back bet so withdraw that and deposit it into the exchange. You can successfully Matched bet with £25 to start.

SachaStark · 06/10/2019 12:44

Yes, @chuckeeee, but withdrawal from the betting site always takes around 2-3 banking days, so if you really want to get the ball rolling on welcome offers, you have to be willing to deposit extra to keep yourself going!

We’re in the process of moving & have been selling a lot of our stuff on eBay or Facebook. It’s sometimes been a bit of a hassle but we have made over £1500 so far. I’ll also mention surveys. Although they don’t make big money, the little amounts do add up & come in handy for me at Christmas. Also make sure you use cashback websites if you do buy things online & when you renew things like insurance & changing energy suppliers. I’ve made almost £200 on Quidco & only been using it since the beginning of this year. I was using topcashback for years & made over £1000 on there, but they did something that really pissed me off so I closed my account down with them & moved on to Quidco instead.
