To struggle to find comfortable clothes

sarahb083 · 05/10/2019 11:12

I've been on a mission to buy some more comfortable clothes for but I've had no luck with the standard high street shops.

Am I crazy thinking I can find clothes that are nearly as comfortable as workout gear but nice enough for a (very casual) office?

Jeans and trousers tend to give me a stomachache and I find them very uncomfortable. I've tried cotton-y leggings but they go baggy and have to be worn with long tops. Any suggestions on stretchy trousers that aren't too tight at the waist and aren't just standard cotton leggings?

I also find most jumpers itchy and claustrophobic, but don't want to buy tops that need ironing. Where can I find soft, long lasting and warm tops? And what fabrics should I be looking for

Any suggestions very welcome!

I think Seasalt might have a range of comfortable clothing for people with sensory issues, OP.

Here seasalt

M&S do lovely soft acrylic jumpers that look smart. I think they're called cashmilon. I've had some for years that still look good.

Thank you! I think I'm buying the right size trousers - when I buy larger sizes, they slip down when I sit and I have to pull them up every time I stand up, and they end up baggy in the legs. I'll look into the trousers suggested - sounds like elastane may be the way to go.

Are you tall op? I have issues with stuff falling down if it's too short. If so check out the next extra long range - it has been life changing for me

"when I buy larger sizes, they slip down when I sit and I have to pull them up every time I stand up, and they end up baggy in the legs."

Belts. 'Curvy' cut trousers.

(Long story why) I have some pairs of girl's school trousers I wear for work. They fit really well. Proper waist, not too tight, not leggings not jeans. I had to try a few styles, but Papaya (Matalan?) suit my hourglass big thigh shape.

Im a huge fan of jumpsuits

I hand wash wool in the bath with shampoo and a good conditioner it works a treat to stop merino scratching me.

WelshMammaofaSlovak · 05/10/2019 15:04

@ShinyGiratina I was going to suggest the m&s trousers as well. I have several pairs for work and I love them!

Also, sea salt tunics with their leggings or with the m&S trousers, if you wear a shirt dress or a tunic with good quality thick dark leggings and bootees or boots then you'll be smart and comfy. I'm not small but love this combo

I recently needed to buy some trousers for holiday and didn't want to spend too much. Was on the point of despair and then stumbled across a pair in Next. Silky soft, elasticated waist and loose fitting without being baggy.I love them and I shall be going back to get some more next time we are in the UK.

WelshMammaofaSlovak · 05/10/2019 15:33

@noroominthefridge Next delivers in the EU if you are there? As do Asda who are a real game changer for affordable baby clothes!

There are the most comfortable trousers I have ever worn.

Merryoldgoat · 05/10/2019 15:39

I wear Jersey dresses with loose jersey trousers almost exclusively from Yours Clothing. I dress them up with earrings, shoes, hair accessories and scarves.

I work in a school (support staff) and this is seen as smart enough.

I’m fat too and this outfit is smoothing, flattering, comfortable.

bluetue · 05/10/2019 16:26

I got a few nice co-ord sets for this exact purpose, feels like I'm wearing pyjamas to work! Nastygal I got them from, with decent shoes and accessories they looks smart enough for the office.

userabcname · 05/10/2019 16:31

I bought some beautiful wide legged trousers from Roman when I returned to work after mat leave which I think would fit your requirements - elasticated and nicely fitted around the waist, tummy and top of thighs, then falling nicely to ankle. Always get compliments when I wear them and they are super comfy too.

WarshipWarrior · 05/10/2019 16:55

www.next.co.uk/style/st211319#511645 these are the most comfortable things you'll ever wear. Has to be this exact type but they do different colours

ShirleyPhallus · 05/10/2019 16:56

Now trying maternity jeans I honestly don’t know if I’d ever go back

I absolutely love them, most comfortable jeans EVER. I’d honestly give them a go even if you’re not preggers

WarshipWarrior · 05/10/2019 17:06

@ShirleyPhallus that's exactly why I switched to those jeggings I linked just above your post - they're just like the maternity kind but the right fit. Heaven. I to was reluctant to give up my super comfy maternity jeggings.

noroominthefridge · 07/10/2019 18:35

Thanks @WelshMammaofaSlovak We are in the EU but I try to avoid ordering on-line and restrict myself to the odd "treat" when we go back to the UK (unless I have forgotten to pack my trousers for holiday!).

Had a very bad experience ordering ASDA baby stuff on-line which put me off, but may revisit it.

Back in the UK unexpectedly next week and not flying so no hand luggage restrictions. Could be expensive Grin
