Lonnnnnnggg OPs should be marked in AIBU so I don’t have to click on them.

Posters wanging on about their colleague doing something (half a page, no paragraphs) ‘and so today I saw on her sister’s Facebook page that’...

Or someone who wants a lengthy ‘debate’ about Politics and writes screeds and screeds.

It’s a chat forum. Chat. Make it fucking snappy, people. Everyone’s busy, yo.

OP posts:

😁

I think some posters find the app doesn't allow paragraphs

I don't use the app so I'm not sure.

Riverviews · 03/10/2019 23:22

And people are scared of being accused of drip feeding

AutumnRose1 · 03/10/2019 23:24

There's drip feeding but there's also using twenty words when two will do.

BackforGood · 03/10/2019 23:24

Issue is, you need to set the scene and give full information otherwise the drip feeds a REALLY annoying, as they change the whole situation.

RolytheRhino · 03/10/2019 23:28

Nah, just give it a quick glance and if it's too long for your attention span then move on. It's not exactly difficult and sometimes the detail is necessary.

WatcherintheRye · 03/10/2019 23:31

There's already Twitter for short and snappy!

PersonaNonGarter · 03/10/2019 23:38

What is the obsession with/fear of drip feeding? Confused Never really understand that. It’s just a bit like real conversation.

I appreciate detail (lawyer) but posters could still give any detail concisely. They don’t.

OP posts:
SnowsInWater · 04/10/2019 00:27

Ha ha, concise is not a word you would use to describe many posts here.

I open and look, if I can't see paragraphs I close. You know by the second sentence in if it's going to be a "no it was a Tuesday, not a Wednesday" story. If so move on.

OwlBeThere · 04/10/2019 00:32

Because unless you include a full and detailed history tracing back to the Jurassic era then someone turns up screeching ‘DRIP FEEDS ARENT ALLOWED IN THESE HERE PARTS!!!’ and the whole thread is derailed.

pigsDOfly · 04/10/2019 00:36

If you click on something that looks too long and has no paragraphs, click off again.

I frequently do so.

SpoonBlender · 04/10/2019 00:50

Aw, does diddums not have an attention span? Blimey.

CalishataFolkart · 04/10/2019 02:21

I like the ones that start, “I’ll try and make this brief.” After a good long scroll you then find the phrase, “Anyway, to cut a long story short...”

NoSauce · 04/10/2019 02:36

Fucking yes, OP!

HarryElephante · 04/10/2019 02:43

Quit ya whining, OP.

FavouriteSong · 04/10/2019 02:51

I agree. I hate 'long story short' followed by a wall of text, then 'fast forward to now' followed by another wall of text.

The OP can usually be summarised into 'DH cheated on me once. Now I think he's cheating again. Should I stay or should I go?'

1forAll74 · 04/10/2019 03:29

There are some posters who seem genuinely very upset about their own personal problems, and wan't to post about them on here, which sometimes means a lengthy post. And there is proof all the time.that the readers do respond to people who wish to talk about the many details of their problems.

Mummybares · 04/10/2019 03:32

To be fair, you could've done away with everything else but 'It’s a chat forum. Chat. Make it fucking snappy' Grin

macmustard · 04/10/2019 05:48

@Mummybares 😂

Doingtheboxerbeat · 04/10/2019 06:09

I love the ' make it fucking snappy' and I might use it for chuggers and whilst snapping my fingers in front of their face. Oh yes, that's lunchtime sorted.

Thereblegeopart · 04/10/2019 06:13

Yanbu. You should have added a vote on this.

Jenasaurus · 04/10/2019 06:16

everyone has a different writing style though, some longer more detailed opening posts are needed and often referred back to, instead of asking the same questions. If they drip fed in subsequent posts you would have to scroll back when someone says RTF in a frustrated tone, to locate said drip feed.

Teacakeandalatte · 04/10/2019 06:21

The bigger waste of time is reading 100s of answering posts saying almost exactly the same thing then posting one yourself.

GinDaddy · 04/10/2019 06:29

"Make it fucking snappy, people. Everyone's busy, yo".

OP you sound like the stereotype of an insufferable City sassy lawyer who talks in cliches. I'd rather read eight paragraphs of emotional venting from what you folk call a "hun", then have to peruse posts with this Mean Girls schtick

YABU

Yerroblemom1923 · 04/10/2019 06:31

Maybe there should be a "short & snappy" talk for those that don't want to write/read the full story but just want others' input on their issue. Needless to say, there would need to be a "drip feeding allowed" disclaimer!

AuntieStella · 04/10/2019 06:36

Adding further info isn't drip feeding.

Whacking in a massive fact that would significantly change the situation and which is bloody obviously a key thing, that's drip feeding.

Good luck in your Canute Campaign to control how people converse either in RL or online.

(Muses on the endogamous nature of life. OP likes short staccato communications, and so has friends which do the same, and so sees it as the norm. It's a great strength of MN that you 'see' people beyond your self-selected RL group
