To ask a really stupid question about coats and car seats

So with the weather getting colder I'm planning to get a new coat for my 18 month old. I keep finding myself rejecting ones that are too padded because of the thing about how you aren't supposed to put them in car seats in padded coats. Because what are you meant to do - take them out of the house in the coat, walk a few metres to the car, take off coat, put child in car seat, drive to destination, arrive, put child back in coat? Surely not? The temptation would just be to get them in the car quickly and not bother with the coat until you arrive at your destination, but then I don't see people taking their children out of their houses without a coat on in cold weather, and surely they'd get cold without a coat inside the car in mid-Winter!

I know I'm overthinking this. Please help me to underthink it.

My toddler ds won't let me put a blanket over him as he doesn't like his arms and hands being covered. This evening I've bought a special car seat blanket off amazon which has arms in it and fastens behind the neck to keep him warm in the car. I'm hoping it does the trick.

Does everyone else wear their own coat in the car? I don't really feel like DS needs a coat or blanket but then I have the heat up enough so that I'm comfy in just my indoor clothes. The first couple of minutes can be a bit chilly but if it's that cold you need to de-ice and demist so I just run the heat for that time.

@LisaSimpsonsbff
I don't wear a coat either. To be honest my son takes his blanket everywhere! Doesn't matter if it's freezing or 30°, it's coming with us! But he will decide if he is cold and snuggle it, or if warm enough he puts it next to him.
