To ask for your recommendations for restaurants in Venice...

Hi, we "won" a trip to Venice with the Wowcher Mystery Holiday Vouchers and I am asking whether any of you have recommendations for bistro-type restaurants in Venice that don't charge an arm and a leg for good, authentic food?

Have you tried TripAdvisor? I find their travel forums so useful when planning a trip. I’m sure you’ll get some good ideas on here, but I find that every question I ever want to ask has already been answered on TA.

First of many www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g187870-i57-k12945467-Food_drinks-Venice_Veneto.html

Locals often contribute so you get up to date info Smile

I ate here on a recent visit and the food was delicious and not too badly priced (although Venice is generally expensive compared to London so be prepared)

Marco Polo is in the touristy area and is good (not fancy though) and reasonably priced.

Generally you want to avoid anything around St Mark's though unless you want to pay £££ for rubbish food.

I love Venice! Have a great time Smile

Goodbkuck I found food in Venice incredibly expensive. There's a couple of nice little trattorias on Lido, you can get the waterbus there. If you turn right by St Marcos cathedral there is a street with some good restaurants in. But generally food in Venice is not cheap.

*good luck

Also when we went we got off the waterbus in the Arsenal area and had a walk, from memory there were some nice little cafes and bakeries.

Sorry can't give a name but had success just walking away from st marks square, loads have set menus which i advise sticking to because it's a bit of a tourist rip off area if you ask for adaptations.

Arsenal area has lovely places, we popped in at lunchtime to a place that was full of staff from the museum.

A good tip we followed was going round the bars and standing at the bar rather than sitting down in the restaurant bit, you order tapas style and it’s a fraction of the price and really good.

Avoid anywhere with big plastic menus in 18 Languages, and on st marks square. Walk away from the tourist bits towards the outer canals.

If you go over to Guidecca island there are some lovely restaurants on the quayside

Have not yet been myself, but this always seems to come heavily recommended by the locals:

Lucky you! Enjoy your Venice visit.
