Definitely too low. When I was on similar salary it was around £2600 after pension deductions.

HomerDancing · 02/10/2019 18:31

It’s a legal requirement for your employer to provide a payslip.

Why havent you got one ?

Ronnie27 · 02/10/2019 18:31

I earn 31ish and take home £2k. That doesn’t sound right to me.

PurpleFlower1983 · 02/10/2019 18:35

That’s too low. I’m on £42k as a teacher and mine is £2200 after pension and student loan.

What's your tax code? If you're a new start they've probably you put you on 0T non cumulative. Also when did you start? If it was part way through the month that could also be why

LakieLady · 02/10/2019 18:47

If you haven't been in that job very long, I'd say that they've put you on basic rate tax (ie, no tax free allowance).

If you ring the HMRC employee helpline (they actually answer, and are actually helpful, unlike most government helplines), they will be able to tell you what your tax code is. If it's BR, you're on what used to be called "emergency tax" and you can ask them to issue a notice of coding to your employer.

Just crunched some numbers, and after your £800 pension contribution, tax at 20% on all of it, and NI, it comes to around £1950.

Contact your payroll department

Is your pay £44k pro-rata?

janj2301 · 02/10/2019 19:12

If you go to gov.uk you can get into your tax record (gov gateway). You xan see the tax cide HMRC have told your emplyer to opetate, anither link takes you to Employers report first column = taxable gross ie after pension cons, next column will be tax next NIC. That should give yoi some idea if you have no payslip

Lobsterquadrille2 · 02/10/2019 19:18

I came on to say what @LakieLady has said. It's just happened to someone on my payroll and when I went into the system, she's on BR tax code. I phoned HMRC and got the staff member to speak to them directly; HMRC have since sent over the instructions to download so her code is 1250L and her October payslip shows a nice rebate. Hopefully it'll be the same for you.

Darkstar4855 · 02/10/2019 19:20

If your pay has been cut you may be being taxed too heavily as HMRC will still be expecting you to earn more overall. £800 pension contribution seems very high - mine is 12.5% and I thought that was bad.

Sparklesocks · 02/10/2019 19:21

If you’ve just started is it possible you haven’t done a full pay cycle? So have only been paid for a few weeks rather than the full month?

You really need to talk to payroll and ask for a payslip.
