AIBU to ask for help organising a birthday to remember for my Mum?

She is the most wonderful person and I want to do something special for her, trouble being she is so undemanding!

Please tell me what to do!

November birthday
Long weekend
Mum + me, DP & DD9
Anywhere in UK (or world!?) (Live in Edinburgh)
Reasonable budget, can stretch for something really special but know mum would be as happy with a meal in the local pub!
Think problem being is there is too much choice, 1st world problems I know.

What has been your most memorable weekend? Give me some inspiration! Thanks

Afternoon tea at a lovely hotel in London followed by one of the big theatre shows.

That was a thought but I have got them both Lion King tickets for Christmas.

Thanks for suggestion though that would have been ideal.

How old?
What does she like doing?
Any other special friends?

My mum, 81 this year, would love a Christmas market somewhere. She loves both markets and Christmas.
If you fancy abroad, overnight ferry from hull to Bruges or similar? You could stay in York overnight, before going to Hull??

How about staying in a fancy hotel in Edinburgh and explore like tourists? Nice meal out, afternoon tea etc.

Or go to a Christmas market in Europe - Bruges is perfect for a long weekend

Ooh Christmas market might be a good shout!

It is her 70th birthday. Honestly she does so much for all of us, I just want her to have a special time.

For a present, I have written to 70 of her friends/family and asked them to write back to me with their favourite memory of her. I will put them all in individual envelopes and wrap them in a bundle so she will have 70 memories for her 70th birthday - easy to transport wherever we end up!

Northern Lights? Pricey, but what an experience that would be.

Where did she grow up? Where did she go on honeymoon? Did she study anywhere? Can you do a bespoke tour of important places in her life?

Does she have a favourite British tv programme? Is it one that you can do tours eg coronation street, doc Martin?

Does she have a favourite drink? Can you do something related to that eg Betty’s tea shop for a tea drinker, gin factory if she loves something harder?

Stockholm is beautiful in the winter, with a lovely Christmas market!

I vote for Copenhagen. Pricier than other European city breaks but utterly magical and a really gorgeous city. Plus I know this isn’t a reason to go somewhere but everyone speaks such amazing english it’s super easy to navigate.

simplekindoflife · 02/10/2019 22:09

Prague? The Christmas markets are amazing.

Afternoon tea and a show.

Spa break. With a good swimming pool for your dd.

Centre Parcs. With spa time for you and your dm.

York. Take her to Betty's tea room, walk along the Roman walls, Minster, Jorvik Viking museum if you fancy it.
