Aibu to expect a response by now?

I have been made redundant whilst on maternity leave which has been its own nightmare but I thought I found a great job!
I have had a 30 minute phone interview, half hour test, hour face to face then a further one hour face to face where I was told it was just me and another candidate who I crossed paths with as I left last Tuesday and since no further contact from the company.
I emailed hr on Wednesday fao interviewers for an update, no response. I called Friday afternoon and was told they would come back Monday or Tuesday, no response! I am holding a nursery place on this and fair enough I am being chased to confirm!
I’ve never experienced this before - you normally get a response one way or the other!
Aibu to expect a response one way or another within a week of a third interview?
I should add this is a maternity cover position who went on leave in august and they said they needed a quick start.
Anyone else been through this?? I’m just so frustrated! I have made so much effort for this and would appreciate a response.

Maybe a key member of the approval process has been out of the business hence the delay?

ASandwichNamedKevin · 02/10/2019 17:20

I think it was unreasonable to email on Wednesday when you had an interview on the Tuesday, it was too soon. The panel may not have had time to score candidates or other people could be involved in the process.
Fair enough speak to them on Friday if you felt you must but I wouldn't have contacted them before a week had passed.
I had an interview for a maternity cover position and it took just over a week for them to contact me. I didn't get it.
My current job they offered me the same evening of the interview. I applied for a job in a hospital before and they rang me on a Sunday, I was very surprised at that.

I once applied for a job with a high level of security clearance required. One candidate was ill on interview day and they interviewed him 10 days later. Then had to wait another 7 weeks to get my offer, and same again before I could start. It was torture as my manager was a complete bitch and I was so keen to leave but the job was internal so I couldn't just leave, it was a transfer to the other department.

Hope you get good news soon. Or any news at least you'll know!

KittyMcTitty · 02/10/2019 17:56

Thanks @ASandwichNamedKevin - I agree I would normally think Wednesday was too soon but it was after a third interview where they had said they were disappointed not to hear from me after the second and they were looking to make a fast decision and I wanted to say thanks blah blah let me know if you need anything else.
I don’t think I’ll ring on Friday - it’s like dating I’ve made contact twice - I’ve shown my hand!!!

Well if they said they were looking to make a fast decision they should hurry up! And saying they'd expected to hear from you adds another layer.
I do hope you hear soon, even if you haven't got this role to get 3 interviews shows they value you so don't rule them out as an employer.
I applied a few times for an organisation I really wanted to work for and stayed 6 years in the end.

Totally like dating, what to wear, how to come across, describe yourself then look keen but not desperate. Flipping minefield!

KittyMcTitty · 02/10/2019 18:28

Ha ha so true! I bought a new outfit for the third interview! They owe me dinner!

Any news, OP?

KittyMcTitty · 03/10/2019 20:20

Nope! I lose the nursery place tomorrow - so I’m in two minds as to contact tomorrow as I’ve already contacted twice to no response (although hr said they would let me know by Monday or Tuesday!) and I don’t want to look desperate (which I sort of am due to the nursery situation) and surely if they had something to say they would say it. I would just like a definitive answer so I can draw a line under it and move on!

HasThisSoddingNameGoneToo · 04/10/2019 07:59

Argh! SO frustrating! What happens if you take the nursery place, but then cancel it later if you hear it's a no; would you be charged?

KittyMcTitty · 04/10/2019 09:13

I’ve already paid a deposit - if I take it now I’ll be invoiced the first month fees. There is a waiting list if I lose it!
I’m going to have to bite the bullet and call again this afternoon. It’s been a week since I last called and I just need the closure!!!!

UPDATE: surprise surprise I didn’t get the job. They apparently emailed on Friday to say I was unsuccessful (which I think is poor when there were just two of us left) I didn’t receive it and called on Friday for an update which I was told I would get a call Monday or Tuesday. Which I didn’t. I have asked them to send me some feedback. What a crap experience.

That is really shit. So sorry but it would probably be a nightmare working somewhere so disorganised and unempathetic. Obviously the pay would have been nice though! Good luck, I hope a much better job is just on the horizon.

Penelopeschat · 04/10/2019 13:50

That’s too bad @KittyMcTitty. Best of luck for the next one!

HasThisSoddingNameGoneToo · 04/10/2019 13:56

The bastards! What a shame. It’s 100% their loss!

BitOfANameChange · 04/10/2019 14:07

When I recruit someone, our complicated recruitment processes mean the interviewers have to find time to get together afterwards to discuss and score the candidates and mark their tests

Good planning means that time to discuss and score the tests, etc, should be planned and booked in when planning the interview times.

then get approval from our head of department to offer the salary we want to offer them,

Again, this should have been discussed in advance, with a sliding scale agreed if necessary. Reduces the time that needs to be taken.

then notify HR, submit the scores and get their approval, and then deal with any questions HR might have before the formal offer is prepared and the candidates are notified.

Preliminary planning would include a draft offer, talking to HR to find out what questions might arise, etc. Doesn't reduce all the time taken here, but issues can be anticipated and some preparation done.

Thanks @HasThisSoddingNameGoneToo @Penelopeschat @Halloumiwrap - it’s just frustrating but onwards and upwards :)

Sorry Kitty, I came back hoping for better news but they sound very disorganised and not much integrity when they didn't ring you and ensure you knew once the offer was not going to be yours.
Good luck finding something better where they won't mess you around.

KittyMcTitty · 09/10/2019 09:38

Thanks @ASandwichNamedKevin - after I received a template email I asked for feedback but no response to date!
