To stop running this group

I’m a little fed up. I am a club runner and one evening a week I run a C25 evening with three runs for three different abilities. Until about March it was really well attended and then it dropped off. Took a break from it built the interest back up and started again and it seemed like there was loads of demand.
But since we’ve started back up loads of people who are signed on the course just don’t show up with no word. They all have my number I’m not scary just “sorry not coming” would be fine. The last two weeks out of three groups which should have 5 people in just ONE person showed up.
I know people are busy but so am I, I work 60 hour weeks and it’s my precious free time I’m giving up.
AIBU to say I’m not doing it and more... and slip in because I thought people who didn’t show and said nothing about it were rude?Blush

YANBU. State you think interest has dropped off as people weren't showing.

Send out a message saying 'due to lack of response, X club will no longer be running, week commencing X. Thanks to those who have shown regular commitment '

Tbh if I was a new runner I would consider this group more of a "drop in" type activity and it wouldn't occur to me that I was expected to contact the organiser if I couldn't make it (actually if I knew I had to do this, it would probably put me off). Unless you made this clear that, that was the expectation when they joined of course. So I don't think people are rude for not coming/coming all the time.

Why not cut it back to one group if the numbers aren't there, and if the numbers still aren't there couldn't you tag it on to a general "shorter run" type group? Or just re-start in January?

Do they pay or are you doing it voluntarily?

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 02/10/2019 08:12

Why don't you just say:

In order for the club to keep running there needs to be a minimum of what 5/30/100 runners... If you haven't heard by 24 hours in advance of the evening - you will cancel?

I'd just add a note at the end... That you understand that it feels like a drop in... But as one evening there was only ONE runner its no longer worth running unless people run!

There was a small signing up fee and we asked people to tell us if they were dropping out as there was a bit of a waiting list

I’m a run leader doing C25k and we always get a high level of drop outs as people lose commitment. If I were you I’d do 1 group of different speeds , faster runners can go out and back or do u turns to join back with the group. Ask people to pay up front for a block of sessions or run it like a fixed term course. Feel free to pm me if you need more details
