Oweeeewwwwwoowww
Wisdom tooth is infected. Needs to come out. My mouth is swollen and the pain is just like nothing else. I’ve been given a strong dose of metronidazole (400mg x 3) and I just want to know when it might start to help. It will have been 48h later today. No worse and yet absolutely no better. This is hell.
Anyone reassure me that the wizardly antibiotics are about to kick in any minute??

I’ve just come off of those for the same reason. I didn’t start to feel better until after the course tbh. But I did definitely feel a lot better.

I also took co codamol but OMG I had withdrawal symptoms. I had endless painkillers for about 3 days and the headache I got rendered me absolutely useless for a day.

It can take 3-4 days to work so don't panic yet, and it can take longer to fully settle

Try and get salt water in around the area as well and suck really hard, sounds gross but if you can get anything out either from under the gum or pop the swelling that's gonna help

For pain relief alternate co-codamol and ibuprofen, unfortunately often nothing helps very much so there's not much else to recommend. Speak to your dentist and they might recommend taking 600mg of ibuprofen but I wouldn't do that unsupervised

If the swelling gets a lot bigger and you start to get any difficulties swallowing or breathing go to A&E.

@BlueCornsihPixie thank you! I’ve been swilling but not sucking so shall give that a go!
It’s definitely not got worse. Absolutely no better but in no way worse at all.

Just as a local anaesthetic, clove oil is the business. A few drops on some cotton wool and wedge it in there.

Hope you're feeling a bit better today @KTD27 at least it's not getting worse so I'd say slowly the meds are working.

Thank you @dontpooyoureyesturnbrown (great username btw) Grin
The swelling is heaps better today. Pain still there and I can not open my mouth properly for the life in me but the whole situation is definitely an improvement. Hoping I can get full range of motion back over the next few days.
