To be concerned? Intense itching from DS

DS is just shy of 2. In the last week or so he's had bouts of itching the palms of his hands. Really, really itching.

In the last 48 hours it's gotten a lot worse. He won't stop itching them!

No itching anywhere else.

There is absolutely no signs of anything on his palms/hands. Nothing.

He's never had the faintest hint of eczema or dry skin. His pals are completely smooth and look normal.

The itching has got so intense he's now really upset and it's like he's crying. The itching is now frantic and looks distressing. Again, absolutely nothing there.

He is his usual self otherwise. No distressing situations etc so I doubt it's stress related.

AIBU to be concerned? Should I try for an emergency GP appointment?

Has your child been given any medication in the past few months? I jad a reaction to antibiotics that caused peripheral neuropathy (numbing,;buzzing, crawling sensations in hands and feet, among other hideous side effects). I imagine that it could feel like an itch to a small child, a bit like restless leg syndrome but in the hands.

Or have you got any new pets?

When I itched like this it was because of liver issues and a blocked bile duct. Please make sure his liver function is tested.

could be diabetes? I'd go back.

Again, no change to anything. That bottle in the picture isn't new. No medication at all within the last year, beyond some calpol occasionally for a high temp in the past.

I phoned the GP back yesterday (we have a call service) and he said 'it is rare' and that he's made an appointment with the GP at our surgery who deals with dermatology. I said again there really is nothing there on his hands, they look 100% normal.

But I guess I'll just have to take him to this GP for skin related issues so he can rule it out himself. The appointment isn't until Thursday and I said the reason I'm calling is because of how much distress my poor baby is in. He said he will put a prescription up at reception for some ointment that should help.

I feel really frustrated.

I had this recently and I worked it out that it was my phone case - it was clear and made of silicone - changed my case and it went really quickly. After months of steroid cream !! Does he play with your phone ?
