Child slightly loose adult tooth

Sorry I'm posting here for traffic as I'm a panic!

My 8 year old has just said his bottom front adult tooth is wobbly! I had a feel and there is slight movement. He does sport but as far as we're aware there hasn't been any knocks to his mouth.

Is this normal or a problem? Should I see the dentist ASAP?

Yes, get child and tooth to the dentist! There is no good reason for a permanent tooth to be wobbling at this age.

Sometimes in the rough and tumble of sport and playground children don't even register a knock. An X-ray will soon reveal if there's a problem.

Good luck.

Speak to your dentist of course.

But my 8 year old had this and the dentist said it was normal as the root in undeveloped still. So don't panic.

Children’s adult teeth do move slightly at first, but take him for a check up at the dentist and they’ll be able to check it’s nothing more than that.

Get him to a dentist asap. This happened with my DS: turned out it was actually one of his front teeth pushing against the bottom one - he had a slight underbite. It was corrected with a brace, didn't have to have it on long (the sort he could take out and put back in again).

Contact sport?

I would be concerned about that. Sounds like an adult tooth has had trama at 8 Shock

There's a rugby player at work and he's always coming in missing a new tooth. It's hard not to react!

Come back and report back though op

I lost 2 sets of from teeth, milk teeth and then my top 2 front teeth started to feel loose and fell out...and another set grew. It’s unusual but not unheard of. But yes go to a dentist.

Thanks for the quick replies! I've had another feel and it's both of the bottom ones that has slight movement, which could be a good sign that it's normal, or possibly worse? There is a gap next to them with a new tooth just coming through.

I've phoned the dentist and the
receptionist says they'll speak to the dentist and call me back.

Yes he plays rugby which is semi contact at this age. Not aware of any knocks, it's only been training so far, the matches will be starting soon Confused

Update. Managed to see the dentist and it is possible trauma or from teeth grinding during the night (said can only be monitored for now due to adult teeth growing in) but should harden up again over next few days fingers crossed. Thank you all for your posts.

Thanks for the update, sounds like there's a good chance it will just sort itself out and least he knows to do something about grinding teeth once they all come through Smile

What happened with the teeth?
My 7 year old has said tonight his adult bottom tooth was loose and I’m so worried about it.
