To buy very expensive concert tickets for DD12?

ReadyPayerOne · 30/09/2019 09:55

My DD12 has been obsessed for the last six months with a US band which announced at the weekend that they'll be playing in London next summer. Tickets go on sale in the next few days and will most likely sell out immediately.

It's her birthday in the summer and she's a keen musician and singer herself, so I'm thinking of buying tickets for me and her and taking her best friend (who'll buy her own ticket). They're great live so it will be a good night for me too.

These tickets are going to cost me £200 plus though and my worry is that by next summer she's going to be "Who?"

Should I wait until she's older and knows her tastes a bit better before I fork out such a large some of money for an event so far in the future? Has anyone done similar and it all worked out?

Ooh, sorry, I meant ReadyPayerTwo. Didn't realise there were two ReadyPayers!

caringcarer · 02/10/2019 11:19

I think good experiences are always worth it for the memories they create. She will look back as an adult and remember you gave her that experience.

ReadyPayerTwo · 02/10/2019 11:35

@NeverPromisedYouARoseGarden I think it gave a range of £85 to £101 for those high seats, so this sales person is just trying to make a quick buck!

This means the better seats could be about £150!! Oh well - making memories and all that!! Good luck tomorrow - let me know on here how you get on.

Btw I was fiddling with the name mid-thread for some reason and now I can't change it back to ReadyPlayerOne - it just says Unable to update.

WoollyFoolly · 02/10/2019 11:58

I had two devices logged in and searching and the first tickets I was offered were the best, I waited to see what I'd get on the other one and got high up seats then ones right at the back - i was booking in Manchester.
Mine cost £80 each including all sneaky extra charges.

Aragog · 02/10/2019 12:55

Don't be too disheartened if you dint get pre-sale. The pre-sale is a restricted sale with only a set number of tickets. The full general sales will have more seats available, including seats closer. It will still be very busy on the day, possibly even more so. Do keep checking though, even once they say sold out. People often have them in their basket but don't check out in time, these then get put back into sale. This can happen throughout the day.

MadisonAvenue · 02/10/2019 13:08

I was reading through the thread and was just going to say the same as Aragog.
Keep trying.

I've seen on a number of times that presales were sold out but random checks through the day showed some still available.

Last month I was in two Green Day presales on Ticketmaster at 10am and 11am for Hella Mega and got the 'there are no tickets available' message (less than a minute in on the 11am sale) and I kept refreshing both whenever I got the message until noon. I tried again at 1 and got three tickets.

ReadyPayerTwo · 02/10/2019 17:18

Thanks @Aragog and @MadisonAvenue - that's a really good tip!

I assume you mean keep refreshing throughout the day for both pre-sales and the general one on Friday?

I was offered seats too high up today and each time I re-searched they seemed to get further away, so I assumed either the better seats had all gone already or they were only selling high seats today.

WoollyFoolly · 02/10/2019 17:41

Have a look again now @ReadyPayerTwo, I've just had a look and there are quite a few back for sale on the manchester dates. Most seem to be single seats but worth a look!

ReadyPayerTwo · 02/10/2019 18:00

I've just had a look and there are 26 tickets left, but all too high again (and single).

I'm wondering if any of the lower seats were released today.

ReadyPayerTwo · 02/10/2019 18:05

@WoollyFoolly I forgot to ask, in your experience when do we receive the notification from Live Nation about tomorrow's tickets?

MaudBaileysGreenTurban · 02/10/2019 18:07

I knew this thread would be about Billie EIlish! Ds and I are going to the O2 gig.

We may be the odd couple - a 17-year-old boy and his nearly-50 year old mother, but I think Billie EIlish is amazing and was rather touched when ds suggested we go together.

Although I may let his gf have my ticket if I'm feeling generous nearer the time (and if they're still together of course Grin)

Georgiemcgeorgeface · 02/10/2019 18:07

Jumping on board as I'm a complete novice ticket buyer and I have to get Billie tickets for Manchester else my DS12 might spontaneously combust. Help. What's live nation?!

ReadyPayerTwo · 02/10/2019 19:04

@Georgiemcgeorgeface it's a free presale site - just Google it and register - you can buy from 9am tomorrow.

Walkerbean16 · 02/10/2019 19:10

For people saying sell the tickets if she doesn't like it - can you sell concert tickets any more? I thought they had cracked down on it and the card holder had to go?

Georgiemcgeorgeface · 02/10/2019 19:30

@ReadyPayerTwo thanks I did. Thought it might be something you had to subscribe to that charges you after so long but it appears there's no catch. Old cynical me!

WoollyFoolly · 02/10/2019 19:35

I don't know about LiveNation sorry, I only registered for this! I would imagine 9am tomorrow again?

ChilledBee · 02/10/2019 19:37

I think AXS is a reputable resale site

AnotherMonickerChange · 02/10/2019 19:38

Was going to do exactly the same for my DD12 because the London gigs are a few weeks before she turns 13.

£200, FFS. I'm a huge fan as well but I've never, ever paid anything LIKE that to see a band. Jeezus.

If you can afford it, do it. Tickets go on sale in two days. I don't know if we can put this in the credit card or not.

ChilledBee · 02/10/2019 19:41

Someone like me might have bought Ariana Grande tickets in August through them from another individual. It seemed like the app immediately redirects the ticket information to you once you paid so the seller has no control once they've put them up for sale. Maybe they can cancel the sale if they've not been sold but once someone buys them, you start getting all related emails.

ReadyPayerTwo · 02/10/2019 20:57

@AnotherMonickerChange I meant two tickets combined would be about £200+.

The ones on sale today for London were price band £85 to £100, but I passed on them as they were very high up seats.

I'd imagine the better lower seats might go for about £120 each.

nancy75 · 02/10/2019 21:28

For resale, if you buy via axs you can only sell via their resale site (capped to 10% over face value) for tickets bought elsewhere you can sell via Twickets - you can only sell for face value & it’s supported by all the major artists ( eg Ed Sheehan tickets were only allowed to be sold on via tickets - not that they actually did check any ID on the door for his shows)

ReadyPayerTwo · 04/10/2019 09:27

I just wanted to come on to say that I've just bought really good seats for Billie Eilish!! Smile

Thanks so much for all the amazing advice on here - I don't think I would have had a hope without it!!

megletthesecond · 04/10/2019 16:51

We've got high up tickets.
We had high seats at the Olympics so I'm prepared to suck it up again. And it's all that was left and I could afford.

NeverPromisedYouARoseGarden · 04/10/2019 17:21

Well done ReadyPayerTwo! Glad you got some good seats. I was too busy at work so didn't get a chance to go online until 11am and all the best seat had gone by then. Like megletthesecond I got two up in the gods, but front row at least.

I'll be back on here come July quizzing the lovely experts about parking at the O2 on a concert day!

WoollyFoolly · 04/10/2019 17:45

Secretly chuffed at how many middle aged mums are looking forward to seeing Billie 😁
