AIBU to rescue snails and put them in front gardens

On my way to work in the morning I sometimes see snails crossing the pavement heading towards the road. Often I pick them up and pop them in the nearest garden so they don’t dry out or get trodden on or run over. But I know some gardeners view snails as pests. Snails are left in peace in our garden.

AIBU?

YANBU OP. I hate killing anything, though I do realise that as I am not vegan I am also a raging hypocrite).

Pharlapwasthebest · 30/09/2019 10:34

Yanbu. I do this too.

Definitely not BU, I and family do the same (though I do sometimes worry that it might have spent 2 days aiming for somewhere and I’ve put it back where it started Grin)

Funnily enough snails seem to leave my plants alone. Slugs on the other hand....Angry
Bless the nematodes

At least you acknowledge it. How many of the other "I hate killing things" posters are happy for others to do the killing if there's a tasty meal at the end of it?

Love you OP 😍 I rescue the critters too. So much so that I help bringing some back from the brink by putting water on them if ie they have climbed too far up a wall or were stuck in a garden waste bag 😁 and I'm a keen gardener. I just buy plants they aren't crazy about. I feed local hackney pigeons too, the ones with dodgy feet who look desperate (good quality wild bird feed😊).

My aunt (by marriage) saw a rat mother and her babies in the alley near her home and used to leave food for them. According to her, rats are extremely nurturing mothers. She is the sweetest woman, one of those angelic folk.

Okay, didn’t think this could get fruitier but alasHmm. Seriously, that should be illegal. Who the hell would think feeding rodents near homes is a good ideaConfused. I would not describe this as sweet or angelic but seriously lacking in judgement.

I am a diehard breatharian of some 3.5 minutes standing so feck off, you judgey 🐄.

I'm tempted but then I think I'll end up being there all day and anyway they'll just start the journey to cross the path again and might get crushed that time!

Urgh. Not in my garden thank you. They eat my flowers and carry nasty parasites which make animals and people sick. They are pointless slimy monsters. They get thrown out of my garden or my toddler drowns them in his water table.

AGermFreeAdolescent · 30/09/2019 11:49

Wtf? I don’t kill any animals or insects (don’t even swat flies 😇) but it is incredibly rude to put snails in someone’s garden. Who do you think you are!?

FishCanFly · 30/09/2019 11:58

I always do. if not gardens, then at least a grassy patch. Earthworms and caterpillars too.

Chloemol · 30/09/2019 12:02

Yes you are being unreasonable leave them be, if anyone was to put snails in my front garden I would go mad. I have shedloads already,
I don’t need anymore

Corna · 30/09/2019 12:50

I do this! And slugs too.
Something about you can't change the world but you can change the world for one creature.
I avoid the manicured gardens though.

IAmALazyArse · 30/09/2019 12:59

Who the hell goes around grabbing slugs. Do you carry gloves?

Leave them be. They are going somewhere. You all are getting so many snails fired for being late to work....
