Am I being unreasonable to think lipstick is not a liquid?

According to Ryanair it is, and I don't mean a lip gloss but a proper solid lipstick, apparently it needs to go in the poxy plastic bag. What do you think?

Yeah I always put my lipsticks in a clear bag at airports
It's a paste

Oysterbabe · 29/09/2019 19:41

This has always been the case.

drivingtofrance · 29/09/2019 19:42

It's probably classed as a paste. Which needs to go in thr plastic bag.

I put lip salve in mine. Also hair wax, mascara, hand sanitizer etc. Basically anything which might be a liquid or paste.

pinksauce · 29/09/2019 19:42

It's a paste with a high liquid content - it's a liquid. Always has been at the airport since the bag restrictions.

YABU.

its not ryanair that make the rules

hidinginthenightgarden · 29/09/2019 19:42

I have guessed solid. What are felt tip pens classed as? if solid then id expect lipstick to be as well.

Mummyshark2018 · 29/09/2019 19:43

I used to put it in a clear bag, up until a few years ago when a person at the security told me to put it in a separate bag as it doesn't count towards liquid allowance. I don't know how Ryanair would know as they don't work at security and don't check your liquids until you board. I think it's up to individual airports.

NannyR · 29/09/2019 19:45

I thought they had always had to go in the liquids bag. It's the airport that enforces the security, not the individual airlines.

Tanaqui · 29/09/2019 19:48

Well I often have lipsalve in a coat pocket or handbag and I have never been asked to put it in the liquids bag - same with solid deodorant. Never actually tried with lipstick, but can't think the scanners would see it differently from salve.

Sindragosan · 29/09/2019 19:49

Soap too - the solid type also counts. It's to do with the way it shows up on the scanner.

Tilltheendoftheline · 29/09/2019 19:49

Its liquids and pastes.

CampingItUp · 29/09/2019 19:50

www.gov.uk/hand-luggage-restrictions

It’s the government that sets what can be taken, and airports that implement / enforce the law.

Nothing whatsoever to do with RyanAir

firawla · 29/09/2019 19:51

You have to put playdough in the clear bag too and that’s not properly a liquid either

MyDcAreMarvel · 29/09/2019 19:52

It’s clearly not a solid.

Yambabe · 29/09/2019 19:52

I've been stopped at security because my solid stick deodorant wasn't in the clear plastic bag.

As PP have said though it's nothing to do with Ryanair, they just advise about what you can pack and how to pack it based on the current rules.
