A few men just came taking photos of next doors house and when questioned they said they were looking for their ‘kitten’. This seems normal however, after I’d checked in my garden’ they got in their car and sped off.

Phone the police. They were probably going to break in.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/09/2019 17:29

That does sound odd, but they haven’t actually done anything wrong, so I am not sure what you can do about it - sorry.

feesh · 29/09/2019 17:30

Definitely notify the police

Goldenstarz · 29/09/2019 17:32

Well I wouldn't of believed if they said that to me why would u take photos of s random house when looking for a kitted

Goldenstarz · 29/09/2019 17:33

Kitten

Namechangewho · 29/09/2019 17:35

I know I seem very gullible now , I just wanted to help them

OP posts:
Rose789 · 29/09/2019 17:37

I would let next door know about it. They could well be checking out the security

Goldenstarz · 29/09/2019 18:01

I think you should let the police know as they might be on the radar with them already

Straycatstrut · 29/09/2019 18:07

Sounds like they're planning something and it doesn't look good.

I'd tell nextdoor and see if they want to call the police. They may have an idea of who could be targeting them.

Leaspr · 29/09/2019 18:09

I don’t see how that’s normal!?
If they were putting up photos of their missing kitten by the house then that would be normal. Taking photos of a house whilst looking for a kitten, is not.
I’d definitely let the neighbours know about this.
Might be worth logging it with 111 (if in UK) just in case other people have also called with concerns.

TheTrollFairy · 29/09/2019 18:09

Does next door have a dog?

Sounds very dodgy to be taking pics of a house. Do you remember what they look like? I would log with 101, just say you want to log it in case anything comes of it

Namechangewho · 29/09/2019 18:12

Next door has a rather expensive cat, I can remember skin colour ect but that’s it.

Honestly what do people expect the police to do here?

A couple of randoms taking pictures of a house, no actual crime has be committed. Yes it’s strange but as for them “being on the police radar” I mean come on a 5ft6, white male, black hair wearing jeans could be half the men in the county.

No I wouldn’t keep call the police, I would however let my neighbours know and keep an eye/ear out for anything suspicious in future

Barchester · 29/09/2019 18:23

OP did you have the sense to take the registration number of their car? If so, give it to your neighbours and let them deal with the matter as they see fit.

Littlechocola · 29/09/2019 18:25

Tell the neighbours and continue with your day.

Totalwasteofpaper · 29/09/2019 18:41

Phone the police tell them what happened and you expect either an attempt robbery of your house or next doors imminently

Passthecherrycoke · 29/09/2019 18:43

Completely agree with @P1nkHeartLovesCake- what do you expect the police to do? And don’t telll them you expect a break in imminently, you’ll sound mad.

I would tell next door, and let them decide. It’s not really usual for burglars to photo graph houses before they break in though 😂

81Byerley · 29/09/2019 19:03

Call the police on the non emergency number. And tell the neighbours.

RidgedPerfection · 29/09/2019 19:10

Could your neighbours' professions have anything to do with it? Prison officers? Police officers? DWP? HMRC? Armed forces? Working with animals? Etc etc....

Definitely let them know.

AgentProvocateur · 29/09/2019 19:14

Let your neighbours know, but there’s no point telling the police. They weren’t doing anything illegal.

Leaspr · 29/09/2019 21:53

It’s not that unusual for Burglars to take photos of the house prior to breaking in. It gives them time to figure out hiding spots and the best ways in and out etc.
They weren’t doing anything illegal at the time but I’d definitely inform the neighbours.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 29/09/2019 21:58

Honestly what do people expect the police to do here?

A couple of randoms taking pictures of a house, no actual crime has be committed.

The police rely on reports like this from the general public. They may have had a spate of burglaries on surrounding streets but no description of potential offenders. OP rings up, describes 3 men. Police on patrol are then able to keep an eye out for anyone fitting description. It’s entirely possible they spot them, pull them over and find stolen goods in the car.

Did you really think people saying “call the police” expected the police to come out and take footprint casts from the mud? 😂
