To ask you to tell me what’s making you happy at the moment?

I’m going through an episode of depression at the moment and struggling to feel joy in anything, even my beautiful daughter. My parents have taken her for the afternoon to give me a break but nothing I can think to do makes me feel any better.

I would love to hear about some happiness in other people’s lives. What’s going well for you at the moment? What’s made you smile today?

@wishihadagoodone yes JK Rowling is bang on!

Medication does and doesn’t help. It’s scooped me out of the very lowest lows in the past but it makes me feel like I’m behind a glass wall or something, slightly disconnected from everything. I’ll go back to it if things get dire but I worry that it’ll make me feel too distant from my daughter

@weebarra Flowers

I had a hard day today too, OP. I forced myself out for a walk to the shop, bought a load of cake ingredients and baked two cakes.

My parents are away so I snuck in to their house, they live in another city to me (I have a spare key, I didn't break in!) and I left one of the cakes on their kitchen counter as a surprise when they come home tomorrow.

Imagining their faces when they see the random cake cheered me up, and I'm currently snuggling under a blanket watching TV while DH tucks into the remaining cake. He's delighted.

...and I just realised from writing this that making other people happy makes me happy.

@riotlady a lady I went to for talking therapy once told me that worrying is stealing happiness from your future self. It really resonated with me because I'm such an over thinker. I used to let the "what if..." rule my life. It still sneaks in from time to time but I do my best to manage it.
There's so many different options for medication. If one doesn't work, try an other. Keep going til you get there! You know yourself better than anyone, so find what works for youThanksThanks

Sorry to hear you are having a rough time, OP. Depression is a cruel thief.

Things making me happy at this exact moment...

  1. I just discovered the Castle Rock series. I love me a bit of Stephen King so this is a welcome find.
  2. Battendog is curled up on the bed with me and is so snuggly and sweet when he is asleep.
  3. I just put some twinkly lights in an Indian lantern in my bedroom and they look so pretty!

I really hope your mental health picks up again soon or that you get the support you need xx

@ThisIsAPun it’s so lovely that you made yourself feel better by looking after others

Please could I bump this? I really need some happy thoughts...

dontquotem3 · 15/10/2019 00:18

Believing that I am in control of my life and that I alone make decisions about what happens in my life. The thought makes me feel incredibly light, and I like the feeling. It has both made me cry like and banshee and smile in equal measure❣️
Feel better OP 💕

my dd starts half term tomorrow, she's been busy and I haven't seen her for a few weeks, I miss her like mad and am very excited.
Chances are we'll have fallen out before weekend, teens eh?

Sorry it's so tough for you atm, how old is your dd? It's good your parents are supporting you, have you seen your gp.
Sorry for all the questions, but I know what depression is like Thanks
