To still worry baby sick wasn't normal 18 years later?

I think about this and have googled lots over the years never got an answer child is grown up and well BUT... I know newborn babies are sick lots but on way home from hospital when she was born she had black sick with black 'bits' in my partner said oh its fine I remember this happening with siblings normal nowt to worry bout. OK ... But never seen or heard a baby do this or ever read about it either so is it actually normal or not?!! I think maybe it was meconium ( is that a word!!) Anyone know?

I think after 18 years you shouldn’t worry. Is the baby-now-adult healthy?

NoSauce · 28/09/2019 22:19

Dillydallyingthrough · 28/09/2019 22:21

OP do you mean your curious? Or are you worried you should have acted but didn't and somehow got lucky with your son being ok?

He's well now and that's all that matters.

Zebraaa · 28/09/2019 22:21

Could be tiny bits of meconium or dried blood (more likely).

Zebraaa · 28/09/2019 22:22

Didn’t see you’d said black sick... hmm

Clevs · 28/09/2019 22:22

Did you not mention it to your midwife at the time?

slipperywhensparticus · 28/09/2019 22:25

My son peed "brick dust" fortunately I had read something about it on the net if i hadn't had the internet i would have worried

Mamabear144 · 28/09/2019 22:26

I'm sure it was meconium or whatever the word is, my ds inhaled his so it all turned into a bit of an emergency but it had to be suctioned out but it can be swallowed rather than his smart way of inhaling it which would cause the black sick.

SpotlessMind · 28/09/2019 22:27

Yeah, meconium or blood - often plenty of both around at birth.

Coffeeandcrumpet · 28/09/2019 22:27

It's fine lots of newborns do this, normally we would say best to just get them looked over just in case but after 18 years I reckon your good!

LoreleiRock · 28/09/2019 22:28

Yes, completely normal. It isn’t normal to still be dwelling on it 18 years later, what did your midwife/health visitor/GP say at the time?

AppleKatie · 28/09/2019 22:31

My baby’s sick over the first few days stained bedding etc... I thought it was horrific but normal (ignorance is bliss!). It was only when I realised a week or so later that his sick was easy to wash out of stuff I realised it must have changed.

I reasoned meconium but I’m not an expert!

Whitejasmine · 28/09/2019 22:31

Meconium - its the stuff that’s ingested when the baby is inside you. It can be a sign that the baby has been in distress when being born but the fact she sicked it up means she was probably just getting it all out of her system naturally - sometimes it has to be sucked out of the nasal passage/mouth.

You’re probably still thinking about it sometimes because it was shocking at the time - I do this - I reply things in my head like when my dd hit her head and fainted. It’s normal!

OhioOhioOhio · 28/09/2019 22:33

Months or years?

Mrsjayy · 28/09/2019 22:35

It was probably a bit of birthing "muck"that hadn't been cleared out that your baby swallowed 18 years is a long time to still have this at the back of your mind though.

Thelistwizard · 28/09/2019 22:37

Op , what is the reason you are still dwelling on this 18 years later?, especially as you say the child is grown up and well?

Sugarplumfairyfartface · 28/09/2019 22:39

Thanks! Yes curious and always wondering! I can't remember what midwife said lol I am sure I must have mentioned it but equally I might not have asked as partner said totally normal and I didn't want to sound clueless! Has anyone else had this?

Goingonagondola · 28/09/2019 22:39

Yeah that's meconium. Put it out of your mind.

Sugarplumfairyfartface · 28/09/2019 22:44

Ahh thanks for replies mind at rest now lol

DD did this : really barfed black stuff up at one day old. Nurse said it was some sort of mucus from the lungs that wasn't pushed out because she was a ceseaean.

Thatisme · 29/09/2019 16:43

My newborn baby did it too. We were still in hospital and they told me it was normal. I had forgotten all about this and my son is only 9. Well done for remembering it 18 years later!

KUGA · 29/09/2019 17:00

It`s blood from the birth and not as uncommon as you think.
But 18 years lol.

happycamper11 · 29/09/2019 17:11

If this was 18 hours I'm might suggest you mention it to mw for peace of mind but....
