Giving a thank you card to a car sales person

I recently bought a nearly new car from a main dealer. So a significant amount of money was paid.

Transaction was as smooth as can be. I went there to view a specific car I’d seen online, 15 min test drive, said I would have it, paid asking price with no attempt at negotiation, politely declined everything in the ten minute up sell attempt, paid cash, went back a few days later to pick it up.

The guy had more thank you cards on his desk than the average hospital nurses station. I opened one up and read it and it said something along the lines of “thanks for making it all go smoothly”.

I’d expect it to go smoothly....I’m paying over 10k and kind of expecting a competent service. I’m not expecting problems. I don’t give the check out person in Tesco a thank you card for putting my shopping through smoothly.

So AIBU if I don’t send him a thank you card?

He'll be writing them to himself so he gets the customers to his desk.

Trust me.

Same as @NightsOfCabiria - I had a bunch of flowers from the saleslady I bought my last car from. (Main dealer).

I used to work in sales and did occasionally get a thank you card. It’s not unheard of if you particularly go above and beyond to find the right product for the customer, especially if they didn’t have much idea of what they wanted beforehand. I now work in emergency services and I’ve never ever received a card. A few colleagues have over the years but it’s definitely less common than it was in sales!

My DH is a car transporter driver, I've read him this thread and he wants to know where his thank you card for delivering the car to the dealership is 😁 by the way, the drivers call the sales men pointy shoe twats so he thinks the writing their own thank you cards are par for the course.

How odd.

I work in a garage and sometimes customers send us thank you cards but they are pinned on a noticeboard out the back for staff to read.

I know of a few people who work in this field. Might not be everyone who does this but both of them have fake thank you cards. One person makes their friends and family write on the cards so they have different types of handwriting. It's entirely sales tactics to make you trust them.
