tall dd

My dd just turned 10 and is already 5ft6 almost as tall as me ! I’m wondering where she’ll end, especially since her dad is 6ft8... She’s much taller than her classmates, luckily she doesn’t mind because her dad is tall, so she knows it is normal that she’s tall. I hope it will stay that way if she nears her teens! Any other mums with very tall dd?

@PositiveVibez

With respect, assuming you're an adult female and only 5'8, you have no idea how difficult it can be for a young teenage girl knocking 6ft. The stupid jokes, comments etc whilst you're in the midst of puberty, working out who you are, fielding comments from your peers about your height is not fun, at all.

lertanaal · 28/09/2019 21:19

The height is not an issue at itself I guess. She doesn't have a medical condition, her height is due to her dad. What I guess could be an issue is being different from her peers. At the moment it is not the case, but as a teen it may be different...

6ft tall here and always the tallest in the class etc even in my leavers year at secondary school there were only a couple of boys taller.
To the OP what someone else said about once periods start growing really slows/stops so your DD might not grow that much more.
Honestly it’s annoying being tall. I’m mid 30s now so obviously have gotten over it but it’s not just being tall, massive feet literally I hate shoes. Trousers other than jeans just don’t even bother trying to find them (my tallness is in my legs). I really hope my DD doesn’t end up taller than me. People are really rude, I get told at least once a month “you are really tall” like would you say “you are really small” or “you are really fat” to someone?

Rowgtfc72 · 28/09/2019 22:18

Dd is 12 and not far off 5ft 10. Im only 5ft 6, however dh is 6ft 6. Shes always been 99th centile for height.

Shmithecat2 · 28/09/2019 22:46

@Waterdropsdown where are you looking for trousers? Next, LTS, ASOS have a decent range of tall trousers. I'm a 37" inside leg and have had some success with all those brands for trousers. Agree on the shoe front though, still thoroughly depressing if you're a 9+.

Waterdropsdown · 28/09/2019 22:52

Really next? I haven’t tried there for years so will give that a go again. That’s great to know.
I’ve never been able to take myself to LTS as my mum used to make me go there and it made me feel like a freak!
Shoes are the pits and I think my feet grew ever so slightly in pregnancy which has made it worse!

I am 5'8'' so only a bit over average, but my family are all very tall, and both dds were tallest in their class in year 6.

ds is now 16 and 6'3"
dd1 is 14 and about 5'7" and looks like she isn't going to grow any more.
dd2 is 11 and same height as her sister and obviously still going.

My niece is over 6' so dd2 may be the same.

never been a problem for any of us.

Our much bigger problem is big feet. Dd1 looks like she may just keep to a size 8. Poor ds and dd2 have my feet and will find getting shoes a nightmare all their lives as they are bigger than standard sizes.

keepingbees · 28/09/2019 23:32

My 7 year old dd is about 4ft 7 and the tallest in her class. She also has size 3.5 feet and is at the top end of the children's range in plimsolls and school shoes.
I'm about 5'8 and her dad is 6'4 so she was never going to be short. I just hope she's confident with it as people comment on it all the time.

CouscousEvaporator · 28/09/2019 23:42

Is she into sport?
I found getting into a sport where height is valued (eg netball) helps protect from feeling self conscious and also helps mental health generally.

lertanaal · 29/09/2019 16:37

yes she is into sports and it is true that height is an asset. It certainly helps :-)
