Tesco Clubcard points

So DP was at the supermarket yesterday and the shopper in front of him in the queue did a £100 food shop. When the cashier asked them for their Clubcard, they said they didn't have one.

My DP pipes up at this point and says: "Oh, if you don't have a Clubcard I'll have your vouchers!". The shopper gives him a look of absolute disgust and refuses.

I think he was being utterly unreasonable asking for Clubcard points from a complete stranger, especially as it was probably worth about a tenner. DP thinks the shopper was being spiteful and weird for not giving the points to someone with a Clubcard.

Was DP being unreasonable asking for a stranger's Clubcard points?

Someone posted this exact thread a week ago, except that time they were apparently in a coffee shop and asked the customer in front for their points. The general verdict was that it was rude and greedy.

Uniformuniformuniform · 28/09/2019 10:01

I think it's rude. However... I would have happily given them to the next person of I had no use for them. Waste not want not etc. But it is rude to ask.

dementedpixie · 28/09/2019 10:02

Yes he was rude and unreasonable

SparklyMagpie · 28/09/2019 10:02

Oh another one 🙄

26seym · 28/09/2019 10:03

They would only have been worth around a £1 not £10, and yes it was very rude.

CloudRusting · 28/09/2019 10:03

He was being rude and grabby

HappyPunky · 28/09/2019 10:03

It's a bit rude to ask but I've been in a shop that I don't go in often so don't bother with a card and I've offered the points to the next in the queue.

bridgetreilly · 28/09/2019 10:06

It's rude and I think it's also against the T&Cs. I would never ask and I would always refuse someone who asked.

dementedpixie · 28/09/2019 10:06

Yep, £1= 1 point. Each point = 1p
£100 = 100 points = £1

LagunaBubbles · 28/09/2019 10:07

Of course it's rude, different if they had offered obviously.

BishopofBathandWells · 28/09/2019 11:08

Hadn't seen another thread, obviously there are a few CFs running around supermarkets in the UK. Grin

I dont understand why its rude ?? If you're not going to use them why shouldnt someone else ?

I think its dumb people dont take advantage of point systems

Pollywollydolly · 28/09/2019 12:12

I wouldn't ask but I have had people in front of me in Tesco ask to borrow my card and put their points on it.

It was cheeky to ask but it's hardly the crime of the century.
