I’ve let him have mine so I can have a shower today and he seems to love it.

Does anyone else’s wee one have one or is it just dreadful parenting.

It’s onlh really for use in the car (to keep him awake) or when I go for a shower

My lg has one, as do all of her friends. It's settings are totally locked down, she only gets it when we say and plays educational games like alphablocks etc. It's fab!

I used to be so strict (didn’t even see the telly on until he was 2). But this morning I really needed a shower and took the easy option

My pair were about that age. They used it for cbeebies stuff mostly. We used them on long journeys and they were definitely useful at times.

Absolutely fine - they are cheap, fairly indestructible and the adult controls are really good.

My kids have got for watching tv when they can’t agree to watch the same thing. It’s not “lazy” or “bad” parenting and doesn’t sound like your DC will be watching 24 hours a day!

The kindle ones are good as they come with a 2 year guarantee if they get broken/ damaged, but they are on amazon's own software. If you can, look at some reviews and see if you may be better off getting an android tablet instead (can watch/ download netflix if you already have that rather than paying amazon for a subscription).
But other than that I don't see why not xx

I think they're great and I've been thinking about getting my 4year old one but I've since changed my mind since I visited a friend for a group play date. Her dcs (4 & 6) refused to play with all the other children and sat and played games on their kindles for ages. I was really surprised at this and I thought it was such a shame. I think introducing kids to technology early is brilliant (and also handy for us at times!) but it's about control and making sure they have a good balance of screen time and play time. I'm going to let my dc use my old iPad but I control when she can access it etc.

You can set screen limit timers on most of them. Only want them to have half an hour just set it too that. Dc will learn quickly that is all the time the pad works for.

I swear my 4 yo has learnt to read playing Alphablocks games on ours. Go for it!

Siameasy · 27/09/2019 22:02

I didn’t know they did kid ones
DD 4.5 has a tablet (well it’s not hers really - we control it) which is deployed at set times and she knows she only gets it then.
I think if adults are in charge and the content is age appropriate it’s very useful.

Roxy9176 · 27/09/2019 22:03

My 3.5 year old has had one she was 2. She has it for short periods usually when I need to work.
She watches videos on there and plays games etc.
She has the kids fire tablet and it’s great because it’s locked down for kids and has all the kids content suitable for her age on it right now. You can also set time limits on it and only allow certain activities like reading.

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 27/09/2019 22:29

Oh I thought you meant to read books 🤣 I was about to say good idea, thinks like word wise and dictionary really good!

Haggisfish · 27/09/2019 22:30

Yanbu

CastleCrasher · 27/09/2019 22:33

Dd got hers at 4yo. We put a time limit on games and videos for 1hr each, and limit the time of day that it can be used so it doesn't work if she tries to use it near bedtime for example. She loves it, definitely had learned from it but still uses it very sparingly, probably about an hour or two per week.

AlpacaGoodnight · 29/09/2019 17:55

They are great! My daughter has one and we limit her playing so she gets 40 mins on a weekday and two lots of half an hour on the weekend/in holidays. We sometimes let her have a little extra if she is doing something educational. We never let her take it to restaurants or soft play etc.

DelurkingAJ · 29/09/2019 18:20

DSs both have them. Time is limited and revoked for bad behaviour. All things in moderation.

DS1 has had D&V this weekend and will therefore be off sick tomorrow. Our amazing CM will have him despite this and off he’ll go with his Kindle. One day won’t kill him.
