To want a duvet that doesn’t bunch?!

OchMumItsJustMaBow · 26/09/2019 21:57

Just that really.

Hit me with your recommendations for duvets that a) don’t bunch inside the duvet cover and b) the duvet filling itself doesn’t bunch.

Thanks Grin

We have a down duvet stitched into pockets. I think it was from JL.

I read somewhere that the thinking behind old fashioned feather quilts was that in hotter weather people could shake the filling down to the bottom (ie deliberate bunching) to make the quilt thinner and lighter over them at night.

I have a v low tog cheapest jl value duvet doesn’t bunch so cost thing is bs.

mummagirl · 27/09/2019 06:21

Cat and dog homes cannot take duvets

sparklefarts · 27/09/2019 07:05

I e always had very cheap duvets. They have never bunched. Mines an Asda one just now

Lonecatwithkitten · 27/09/2019 07:08

Wool duvet it's revolutionary. Mine came from soak and sleep, but I meet the owners of Baavet and saw their product at the Wensleydale show and will from them my next duvet.

I’ve never had any problems with bunching in all my many years of duvet buying, but my son’s duvet (identical to mine) was always bunching up - I think it must be something to do with the way some people move in their sleep!

Anyway.

What I did with my son’s is to sew poppers onto the top corners and half way down the sides of the duvet, and sew the other half of the poppers on the inside of the duvet cover. I also embroidered little stars on the outside of the duvet cover to make it easier to spot where the poppers are, but you don’t have to do that bit. It Only takes an extra second when making the bed to attach the poppers and it seems to prevent the bunching.

Ditch the feather!

I have supermarket duvets. The best one i have is a 15 tog one from Asda. It was the best during “beast from the east”.

Don’t knock supermarket ones!

Fine bedding company, spundown duvet. It's hypoallergenic, lighter than feather, but warm, doesn't bunch or lump.

flamingjune123 · 27/09/2019 07:21

Believe it or not Argos do the best low priced duck and feather duvet, can't remember the make. I've got them throughout the household and they last well and do t bunch up. I'm aware not everyone will agree with having duck and feather but hey ho

flamingjune123 · 27/09/2019 07:22

Oh and they're ultra cosy, I buy the 13 tog

flamingjune123 · 27/09/2019 07:24

Argos home duck feather double duvet 13.5 tog is £37

LickYouLikeACrispPacket · 27/09/2019 07:25

I would highly recommend the Simba duvet. It has a hot and a cool side. All the filling (cool side synthetic and hot side down) is sewn into little square grids on the bed so it can’t all bunch up. The duvet is so cosy. I can get up and go and feed the dog or whatever and come back ages later and the bed is still super cosy. Not cheap but an investment and it’s machine washable too.

Jesse70 · 27/09/2019 07:26

I find even if u buy the duvet and the cover from the same retailer they just don't fit properly the duvet is always to big
Fucks me right off

Jesse70 · 27/09/2019 07:27

Duvet cover is to big

Soontobe60 · 27/09/2019 07:28

After years of buying expensive feather ones, and being annoyed at the bunching, rustling, poking issues, bought a summer weight Dunelm cheapie last year as a temporary measure when we got a new bed. We've never looked back! Over winter we just threw on a blanket over the top and we're still warm enough. It doesn't bunch or rustle, is really easy to change the cover with my arthritic wrists and keeps us snug. I think I paid about £15.

nettie434 · 27/09/2019 07:28

I have a got a John Lewis down duvet and it does bunch inside the duvet cover. It’s about 10 years old so I think it might be an age thing because I don’t remember it being a problem when it was new. I have wondered whether wool would be better so was encouraged to see the replies here. Thanks Ochsmum for asking this and saving me the trouble!

Soontobe60 · 27/09/2019 07:30

Also, have you put the duvet in the right way round? If I inadvertently get it the wrong way it bunches up and I have to start again!

RandomMess · 27/09/2019 07:36

Wool duvet and high thread Egyptian cotton covers have made duvet life far better. I think the fabrics are less smooth so stay in place better. If you get feather again make sure it's not where they pluck from living birds 🤮

alwayscoffee · 27/09/2019 07:45

Silk duvet from John Lewis. Had it a couple of years without problem.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 27/09/2019 07:55

Silent night ones are fine never bunch

BertieBotts · 27/09/2019 08:07

Feather duvets are supposed to bunch, it's so you can adjust the filling to the temperature. We have a lyocell one from IKEA which is lovely. It only bunches inside the cover when I've been cosleeping and tucking it under me so it's not over DS.

Apparently the way to avoid bunching inside the cover is to sew ribbons on the corners and ribbons inside the corners of the cover, then you can tie it in place

Sgtmajormummy · 27/09/2019 08:15

Nappy pins at each inside corner between duvet and cover keep it from bunching up and won’t come open to prick you in your sleep!

I bought some synthetic duvets from Soak and Sleep. They were too warm and strangely “bouncy” from added silicone, I think.
They got sent to charity and I felt swindled...

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 28/09/2019 19:14

We've got two different king size duvets from Soak & Sleep, and both of them are weirdly too big for the king size duvet covers, also purchased from Soak & Sleep Confused

SurferRona · 28/09/2019 19:31

@MereDintofPandiculation thank you so much for that tip!!! I love my feather duvets, hate slippage and this will fix that right up!

spongedog · 28/09/2019 19:40

Thank you for this thread. I am looking at all of our duvets and have been considering Devon Duvets, but now have other names.

One of my duvets does have pockets and still bunches a lot, even in its pockets.

I agree with the comment about being more expensive to refill. I refilled pillows - wish I had just bought new.
