Or are there more antivax threads lately?

I feel like I've seen virtually one a day recently! Has anyone else noticed the same? MNHQ has been good about zapping them, but still seems like lots are cropping up?

I didn’t realise it was policy to delete anti vax threads.

boujie · 26/09/2019 13:00

I don't think it strictly is, unless there's something else about them that raises alarm bells - but a lot of the antivax threads lately have been zapped. Makes me think it's all a big conspiracy and not bona fide posters 😬

Well they are getting the message across somehow, just read on the BBC site that MMR vaccine uptake has fallen again 😡

Wiltshirelass2019 · 27/09/2019 10:38

Unfortunately, theres a lot of very stupid (woke) people reading too much nonsense on social media instead of reading books. That’s the problem. Lots of people only like reading things with a shiny, back lit screen.

Venger · 27/09/2019 10:46

I don't think it is but if someone was posting potentially harmful or hurtful information (e.g., vaccines are poison and will give your child The Autism, people who vaccinate are hurting their kids, etc) then I imagine it would be policy to remove that sort of thing as a breach of talk guidelines.

Venger · 27/09/2019 10:49

Sadly some of the stupid people read books too and will post links to "factual" books on Amazon that turn out to have been written by prominent anti-vaxxers.

Wiltshirelass2019 · 27/09/2019 10:57

Venger Yes I’ve seen a few of those, fortunately they are few and far between. If you are well read then the likelihood is that you won’t be drawn in to such nonsense. People don’t read enough (or anything anymore) my library is always empty and all you see is people poking at their phones.

Stressedout10 · 27/09/2019 10:58

The government has been promoting vaccinations and there has been a lot of news articles about the dangers of antivaxers so this is the inevitable push back from the mourns who believe this crap, they can't get on mainstream media outlets as none of there research and arguments stand up to proper scrutiny so they go on social media to spread their dangerous lies and bs

Venger · 27/09/2019 10:59

Some of them are very scary in their beliefs. I've encountered one on here before who doesn't believe in germs, says germs are just a theory, and therefore you don't need vaccines Hmm

Stressedout10 · 27/09/2019 11:10

I've unfortunately come across many people who think that antibiotic resistance is caused by people becoming resistant to them not the bacteria Confused. As in I haven't taken antibiotics for years so i can't be resistant to them Confused
Even when you explain how drug resistant happens in very small words they still don't get it. But they did some online research and vaccines are bad and we should all trust them and not vaccinate our children ffsAngry

Jux · 29/09/2019 15:02

Venger someone on here doesn't believe in germs? Shock

Hiw on earth do they think colds spread?

Venger · 29/09/2019 15:04

Something about the virus already been in your body and then an environmental factor triggers/activates it and, bingo, you have cold symptoms.

It was all very odd.

Venger · 29/09/2019 15:04

Been - being

berlinbabylon · 29/09/2019 15:13

I've not seen a single anti vax thread on here. They're usually extremely pro-vax.

Jux · 29/09/2019 15:16

Oh dear, that is truly daft! It makes you wonder if they are allowed out alone.

Inebriati · 29/09/2019 15:18

I assume a lot of those types of anti science thread - heal yourself with crystals, vaccines cause autism - are being churned out by the various troll farms.

I haven't seen many posters start anti-vaxx threads but perhaps it depends on what you define as anti-vaxx? I'm pro vaccinations and my DC are up to date with their schedule. At the same time:-

I don't believe making vaccinations compulsory will make the slightest difference to the take up rate.
I think the number of children who suffer adverse reactions to vaccinations is under-reported
Vaccinating against chicken pox is unnecessary and the hysteria on MN about CP is very odd.
Dozens of doctors in this country have stated that falling rates of MMR take up is largely due to poor admin/inefficiency in the medical service and the fact that many people cannot access vaccinations. We really need to address this. Fixating on crackpot antivaxxers alone isn't going to address this problem.

I've discovered that on MN holding any or all of the above opinions means you are "anti-vaxx" or "deluded".

TheMustressMhor · 29/09/2019 16:08

I've never seen an anti-vaxx thread on MN.

Abitmorethanusual · 29/09/2019 16:09

I agree with Eastie

I also don’t believe all the vaccinations are necessary. I will only give my children vaccinations that are of benefit to them.

Crunchymum · 29/09/2019 20:09

So why do you think we need another thread? Shock
