Rehoming a cat

AIBU to expect when I get in contact with someone in a local town re: rehoming a cat that the cat in question should be in the same bloody country 😑 (it's okay they would fly it to a handy airport three hours drive away).

Are you offering to rehome a cat but did not know it was in a different country ? how did that come about ? do you know the owners ? Even if you were willing to drive to the airport what about its quarantine ?

IfIKnewThenWhatIKnowNow · 25/09/2019 21:08

I’m so sorry @westcountrychicken this made me laugh 😂 how ridiculous of them to think that’s ok!

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 25/09/2019 21:16

I came on to say "A cat is for life, not just for Christmas", but I see it's not you doing the rehoming. YANBU. Memories of an aquaintance trying to get me to take on a cat she was bringing from Egypt. All this should have been sorted out before, surely?

RingPiece · 25/09/2019 21:17

Awww. I hope you still go through with it. Such a long journey for a little cat! 🐈

RingPiece · 25/09/2019 21:18

Where's it coming from?

westcountrychicken · 25/09/2019 21:57

I messaged a lady about a cat, he sounded ideal and ad said she's based about half an hour away.

Nope, the cat is advertised on behalf of a friend and is a stray from Cyprus, a stray that apparently will slot perfectly into my household if I buy it a plane ticket (advertised as a rehoming fee of £130, I haven't replied to ask if that's the cost they wish me to cover). I don't want a cat with a huge carbon foot print!

Looking for a cat to rehome and initial purchase price it's cheaper just to get a kitten 🙄 husband and I are 😳 as we've always just been given cats in the past.

Wow! Where are you? I know loads of cats around here (NW) that need homes. There are sometimes issues with animals coming in from shelters abroad, spreading diseases. I would stay clear as there are plenty of places offering cats in the UK.

VeryQuaintIrene · 25/09/2019 22:41

Carbon pawprint, surely?

Grumpyunleashed · 26/09/2019 01:08

@westcountrychicken
Go to the RSPCA or Cats Trust.
They always have cats of all types who need a home and will not try to foist a possibly feral cat on you for profit. They will charge you for a pet, but it will be one that matches your needs and that has been checked by vet etc.

Wife & I adopted 2 kittens from the RSPCA, house was given a quick inspection for suitability and the fee charged for the beasties would have just covered the price the RSPCA paid for their jabs and neutering.
Bargain, and 2 cats in need now have their own home.

I'm surprised that the cost of flying a cat here would be that low.

I've never seen organised charities for bringing stray cats here in the same way as they do dogs. I've heard of so many problems with people bringing dogs from Romania so I expect it would be the same with cats.

If you are in the NW ( or can get there ) please try please try Millstream.
www.facebook.com/Millstream-Animal-Shelter-111664635592769/. it is a great small independent rescue and rehoming centre .

Did you get your kitty? There are over 50 at our local animal charity so message if you want its contact details.
