To expect hot air balloons not to come crashing down on my head?

Hi, just got back from the Bristol evening mass balloon ascent and it was a "disaster" according to my little DD1 who is only 5yrs old.
I thought it was quite exiting.
We were on the Downs having a picnic at around 7.30pm waiting for the balloons to take off from Ashton Gate and there were about 14 of them in the sky.
Then all of a sudden they lost altitude and started to come straight towards all the spectators in the park.
Some were just skimming the trees, others just thumping down onto the ground and one poor guy needed loads of people to hold onto the basket to stop being blown into a tree.
Never seen so many balloons coming down in my life!
There were about 25 downed within 30 mins.
Made for an exiting evening.

lol...had an exciting if rather upsetting evening encounter with somehtin landing near by too...
a emergency helicopter landed far to near, and apparently a little 2 year old litle one has fallen from a balcony headfirst and is , of course, badly injured, poor thing!

LOL at DD saying it was a "disaster" Children are such drama queens aren't they. DS yesterday declared it had been the worst day of his life because his friends were trying to tickle him and he didn't want them to.

Crikey though 3, hope the little boy's ok. That's not good.

Ripeberry at least the balloons made it into the sky, we were at a hot air balloon even last year and the weather stopped the balloons even taking off so we watched the owners sitting in the baskets (no balloon attached) putting the flame things on and off to the beat of various songs (It's Time to Burn being one of them), this was after waiting for hours in the drizzle with the promise that they might actually take off.

not sure if boy or girl..just taking reports from local Kids right now, and cound be anyone erelated to them...but yes, I do hope the lil one is o.k.
I am just assuming the child went headfirst, because the Kids were discribing headinjuries...hopefully it wasn't a head first fall.
Obviously injuries were bad enough to need air ambulance to a bigger hossie...
Bloody balconies...I knw we are always freaked out by my mums balcony when visiting her..it's kinda high up and esepcially with little ones you just never know...

I live just outside Bath and it really freaks me out when out of nowhere you hear this enormous whooshing sound and jump a mile - then realise there is a balloon hovering over your house.

What really freaked me out though - last monday night I was coming back from Devon up the M5 and there was a balloon up near Glastobury and it was so high up - above clouds etc - really high - scary high
