to be bothered...

...that nursery drew on my dd's hand in biro?

She's 19mo and I've just picked her up and she has a spider drawn on her hand in pen. My friend's LO had ice cream drawn on her hand in biro last week but she didn't ask why.
I might question it.

Not sure if iabu or overdramatic so thought I'd bring it to you guys.

How very odd. Have you asked them why they've done this? Meet with the manager ASAP and ask that it doesn't happen again. Are you otherwise happy with their care?

ThinkerThunkk · 24/09/2019 16:57

What is the bother it causes you?

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 24/09/2019 17:00

What is the concern?

Russell19 · 24/09/2019 17:00

I would be very annoyed! It doesn't wash off easily and some biro pens are not child friendly and potentially toxic but let's hope the nursery would have safe pens anyway incase the children got hold of them.

Mrsmummy90 · 24/09/2019 17:02

@Marylou2 I only noticed it once we'd got home as she had long sleeves on and they were covering it. I'll ask her keyworker on Thursday as it's really odd. My dd loves the nursery and I do really like it. The only other issues I've had with them have been regarding nappies but when brought up, it's been resolved.

@ThinkerThunkk I think it's because she's only small and has delicate skin so I think drawing on it with biro is a bit silly. They have plenty of paper there so can't see why they'd need to drawer on the kids Grin

@Russell19 my thoughts exactly!

Really not worth bothering about, seriously

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 24/09/2019 17:05

Coconut oil will take it off.

FairyBatman · 24/09/2019 17:06

We have had this twice in the last 2 weeks. Apparently it’s Incy Wincy Spider and they all had them on their hands.

It gave me the rage as it wouldn’t wash off. I thought aI was being U, glad to hear I’m not alone!

Mrsmummy90 · 24/09/2019 17:08

@FairyBatman that would make sense. I texted my friend as her dd (my dd's best friend) is in the same nursery class with the same keyworker but apparently she didn't have any pen on her Confused

Mixed reviews then. Glad I'm not alone in being bothered lol

I can imagine if a complaint were made it would be classed as some kind of abuse! Did the child consent to bring drawn on that type of thing. But it's not like they drew or wrote something inappropriate so I wouldn't be bothered.

Benes · 24/09/2019 18:12

Definitely overdramatic. It's a non issue

Russell19 · 24/09/2019 19:23

Toxic pen is an issue...

Benes · 24/09/2019 19:27

Have you any idea how much ink has to be ingested for it to become an issue?? The child would have to drink it and lots of it!

It's absolutely a non issue.

WorraLiberty · 24/09/2019 19:29

Well according to this link all ballpoint pens are non-toxic.

I can't believe those who are saying they're difficult to wash off. I often write little initials on the back of my hand at work, as my memory is crap.

Most of the time I just wet my finger and rub it off.

Nonnymum · 24/09/2019 19:32

It wouldn't bother me. I can't really see the issue unless they used poisonous or indelible ink which I assume they didn't

Isitnearlyweekend · 24/09/2019 19:33

You think this is bad, when my son was at nursery they painted his face purple as Barney the annoying American dinosaur. It wouldn’t come off and he was bright purple for two weeks. He’s 19 now and still remembers it!!

CornishCreation · 24/09/2019 19:51

As someone who works in a nursery, although I haven't ever drawn on a child admittedly, we just have to go with the mentality that you can't please all of the parents all of the time.

Mrsmummy90 · 24/09/2019 20:41

@Isitnearlyweekend that's hilariously awful 😂🙈

@CornishCreation that's true. I think I'll just let this one go. There are bigger things to worry about in life I guess. It came off pretty easily in the end with a baby wipe!

My creche did this all the time. Everyday different pictures in my DDs hand. She loved it and loved showing me the little pictures. My DH and I used to joke that they were testing the parents to see who was washing their kids!!!!

ElizaPancakes · 24/09/2019 21:24

I honestly can’t see myself ever getting upset about this.

It used to make my boys giggle when I’d draw a happy face and a sad face on their toes!

WonderTweek · 24/09/2019 21:56

I can be a bit hysterical with things sometimes but this wouldn't bother me. It's just a bit of biro. I occasionally draw a face on my toddler's hand and he finds it hilarious. It comes off when he washes his hands so no biggie. Halo

Mrsmummy90 · 24/09/2019 22:08

Thanks guys for giving me a different perspective on it. I'll try to see the fun in it in futures
