Cant link and hope the picture works but it s part of an article in the Mirror about a woman who sat with her 13 year old son in his maths class to stop him being rude to the teacher.
Ok, not my thing but if it works for you...
My point is I think it's silly to have called herself "mummy bear" in the article.
He s 13, not 3. God knows what he and his mates think.
Aibu to hate all this Mummy Bear, Mama Bear etc.
I m just mum. And mummy when dc were little. I m not a bear or any other animal Grin

I agree. I also hate the word "twee" though. Anyone who uses that word is as much of a wanker as mumma bear 🤢

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 25/09/2019 07:54

Why do you care? 🤷‍♀️

Mummaofmytribe · 25/09/2019 08:01

My kids, now AC call me variously, mumma, mumso, mumzoid, mumbo no 9.
I didn't ask for Any of this. When I ring I say "Hey it's Mum" but none of them actually call me that. None of it's my doing!!
And I do very much identify as a mother. I'm a person, a fully formed woman of my own but a large part of my identity IS as a mother. I had kids very young so I've never been a childless adult. No experience of that.
So I'm a mother before anything else. Also a strong, resilient person with plenty of quirks, faults, interests, achievements, abilities which have nothing to do with having kids and GC.
I don't feel inferior or apologetic that I'm a mother first and foremost. And bloody hell, some women would give their eyeteeth for children - whatever they end up being called.

Mummy bear is on a par with 'mummy friends'
That phrase does seem to be dying out a bit though ( fingers crossed)

Not bear related but I also can’t stand it when people post a picture (usually of their progeny) with the comment ‘this boy’ or ‘this one’ or similar.

‘Living his best life’ sets my teeth on edge too. Even more so when referring to dogs...

@happyandglorious a common word in Scotland where I m from.
Really descriptive I think Grin but my kids say vom.

A friend of mine has 2 dc and i cringe at her "living my best life/my pretty angle/ my lil man and the worst was a picture of a picnic in the park with some other women and dc with the caption "mummas day out#my mumma friends"

The woman is ridiculous for referring to herself as Mummy Bear in the report. A colleague however introduces her huge 28 year old son (who looks and conducts himself like a Russian Ultra) as "my little prince"

An acquaintance of mine posts pictures of her lad playing hock with the heading ' The boy doing his thing' I dont know why it makes my eyes roll!!

I'm mama, I prefer that to mummy, maybe it's a culture thing? Mama or mumma or mummy all fine, bear I'm not sure where that trend came from... I'm just a mama not a 🐻 and no cubs (or kids 🐐) just children.

PhilCornwall1 · 26/09/2019 14:55

You've got to be a fruit cake to use anything like that. If any of my lot started that shit, I'd be gone!!!
