To give 24 hours notice?

I started a cleaning job in early August. 2.5 hours every evening mon-fri and an early morning one too on one of those days. I have to drive to get to these. I haven't had a contract, nor a uniform. I get products supplied for me to use. Yesterday I had really had enough of working long days (do long days in the Healthcare sector too in the daytime) and after I completed my clean , gave my access cards to the other cleaners who I share my premises with to keep safe, and let the woman who hired me know that it was just not working out for me and my young family anymore.

AIBU to just give 24 hours notice to this woman , given that they have other cleaners in their portfolio and given I have no contract either ?

YANBU. No contract means no notice period.

OhamIreally · 24/09/2019 07:23

How are they paying you? If you have no contract I don't think you are being unreasonable but I would worry about being paid for the work I'd done.

Anothernotherone · 24/09/2019 07:23

If you don't have a contract YANBU. Have you been paid - the risk is without a contract you might not be, or not for all the work you've done Sad

That's my only worry (not getting paid). Her response was something along the lines of , I think the correct procedure is to give notice ... not when it's not contracted it's not!

Well you’re NBU as there’s no contract but I wouldn’t hold out much hope of getting paid.

Don't know whether to say to her that I can do the rest of this week , and that's my notice ? Is that too much?

Id just not turn up and take the risk of not being paid

fowlweather · 24/09/2019 08:17

Thing is , end of the week will take me to pay day won't it. Surely ! Argh.

If you don't have a contract, you need to give statutory notice, which is a week from employee to employer. ACAS and the Government website have pages on this.

I get a bank transfer every month. I have 1 pay slip so far. Linked up to HMRC so all above board. I've said to her I can do to the end of the week.

She's now asking me to work a weeks notice , but she has already arranged cover for this week! Unbelievable. She should've said all this a long time Aho.

But you have a verbal contract as you are getting paid. Statutory notice applies if nothing else is agreed.
