AIBU to ask where can we holiday now?

Had a holiday booked for Disneyworld this week - family of 3 boys ages 9, 6 and 1 (2 end of Oct). Found out at the end of today that there is no way of us getting there.

Even looking next year we’ll have to pay so much more due to prices going up and also ages going up.

Can anyone recommend any amazing holidays to go (we will just have to whack it on the credit card) so as to soften the blow?

That sounds rubbish for you all, Punishment.

Would Disney Paris be a replacement option? I know it's not as big/flashy as Florida, and doesn't have the Universal parks etc, but it's probably enough for small kids (especially with a trip into Paris), and the weather should be OK still.

AlwaysCheddar · 23/09/2019 16:56

Depends on the budget.

Singlenotsingle · 23/09/2019 16:59

I'd agree. Disneyland Paris. The two little ones won't even realise it's not the original plan.

DontLettuceBrexitLettuceRomain · 23/09/2019 17:23

Why is there no way of you getting there OP?

kjhkj · 23/09/2019 17:24

have you checked all other airlines? Norweigan is good for orlando

leckford · 23/09/2019 17:25

You can get to Paris on Eurostar and I think Eurodisney

Northernsoullover · 23/09/2019 17:25

Portaventura? Its only a short hop to Spain.

HairyFloppins · 23/09/2019 17:27

Disney Paris although I know it won't be the same.

See if there are any cheap flights to LA and do Disney Anaheim, we loved it there.

Eftetling, they are doing 3 for 2 nights at the moment.

Portaventura the themepark is fantastic at Halloween.

Hope you manage to get something.

GreySheep · 23/09/2019 17:30

Depends who you booked through. Disney Holidays are currently reprotecting all guests onto alternative flights. Travelling from today onwards. Your company might be doing the same.

PunishmentSnart · 23/09/2019 18:18

It’s a travel agent, just the flights were through TC, they said no other flights available even in coming month or two apparently.
We were booked into a Disney Hotel through the package but no word from them- would it be worth contacting them direct do you think?

Disney Paris is an option but heard it’s only good for 3/4 days and was looking forward to 2 weeks of no work and routine!

Budget is decent as we will be getting a full refund for whole holiday.

Disney LA? We preferred that one to Florida.

FairyBunnyAgain · 23/09/2019 18:40

Hi OP, not sure where you are in the UK but have you looked at indirect flights with United.com or Delta?

oldkeywest · 23/09/2019 18:43

Disney in LA is a great idea. Or wait until end Nov / beg Dec and go to Lapland, most amazing holiday (I would recommend booking with transun) Hope you get something great booked.

Purplepeonies · 23/09/2019 18:47

Have you checked flights yourself? Have done a very quick search on Skyscanner and there seem to be flights available. Not sure what your dates are. Good luck!

Purplepeonies · 23/09/2019 18:48

Oops I misread your post and thought the holiday was end of Oct

NoNoOk · 23/09/2019 18:49

Where do you live OP? It seems odd there are no flights with 4 seats from the UK to Orlando this week. In fact skyscanner tells me there are many, some leaving tmrw, there are even still direct flights available for under £2000 altogether.

I know it's not what you asked but just hate the thought of you missing out, your poor 9 year old especially Sad

alreadytaken · 23/09/2019 18:51

Well if you said where you wanted to fly from and exactly what dates you need something might be done. Skyscanner certainly suggests flights are available on 30th September, even some direct flights from London, although you might have to settle for 1 change to keep prices down. Assuming you were hiring a car you could look at flights to other nearby places if necessary. Costs about £1885 upwards for 5 of you in economy.

Google flights might be worth using, I find skyscanner simpler.

PunishmentSnart · 23/09/2019 18:57

North West but will fly from anywhere and we are a little flexible with dates. Sorry should have said earlier but we were originally going with another family as well with kids of similar ages.

It was only the travel agent who said there were no flights at all - I did say to DH to ask could we have a partial refund for just flights and I wouldn’t mind paying extra and not recovering as I just feel awful for the kids. He is out atm so will double check if he asked and checked himself when he is home.

If he didn’t check I will go mad as I specifically said to look himself as agents have been terrible - I will have been upset all afternoon for nothing!! We haven’t told kids yet. We’ve had to cancel a holiday before due to a family member being ill and they were distraught Sad

PunishmentSnart · 23/09/2019 18:58

We never planned to hire a car but could look into it if not too expensive and our only option.

alreadytaken · 23/09/2019 19:12

how long were you planning? I think for Manchester you might have to do a stop somewhere.

milveycrohn · 23/09/2019 19:15

If it is only the flights booked with TC, try Expedia yourself for indirect flights.

alreadytaken · 23/09/2019 19:22

1 - 8th October Virgin Atlantic £2218 booked with travelup. 1-15th KLM book with expedia £2284. Just examples

Octonaught · 23/09/2019 19:27

Loads of flights from LHR to Miami. £500 pp (approx)
Miami to Orlando 3.5 hours; 240 miles.

Use economycarrentals.com to reserve a car. You only need to pay the deposit and pay for the car on collection, so you could pop that on a later credit card.
