To ask how much you would sell a 3 year old washing machine for?

It's a Samsung, cost about £600 new.

Moving in a couple of weeks and new place has an integrated washing machine so need to sell ours.

Like I say, Samsung, 3 years old, washer dryer - 9kg. Works fine.

I've sold it for a certain amount and dh is not happy as apparently I've sold it for way too cheap...

So how much would you sell for/buy it for?

To be honest, I probably wouldn’t buy a second hand washing machine

MustardScreams · 23/09/2019 11:20

I’d say around £200ish?

intermittentfasting · 23/09/2019 11:20

If I was moving to rented accommodation, I wouldn't sell it at all. You may need to fork out another £600 in a year or so time to buy a new one.
If I was moving to a bought house, I'd keep it as a spare.

If I really wanted to sell it then I'd check on gumtree etc what the going rate was. I wouldn't expect to get more than £100 at most.

Solasum · 23/09/2019 11:21

I wouldn’t buy one, and would probably only expect to get 100-150 for it max.

Oysterbabe · 23/09/2019 11:22

I was going to say about £100.

SachaStark · 23/09/2019 11:22

My washing machine is second hand, and we purchased it for £40. It’s an Indesit 7kg, and was very nearly new.

steff13 · 23/09/2019 11:22
  1. Maybe 200.
intermittentfasting · 23/09/2019 11:22

If you're not moving for a couple of weeks have you not been a bit hasty selling it? How will you wash your clothes in the meantime?

HomewardHound · 23/09/2019 11:23

100?

The problem is it’s probably just out of guarantee and it make break down. If this happens within a short timeframe it will be back on your doorstep with the buyer wanting a refund. So sell as working, state reason why selling, and say no refunds.

ToastyFingers · 23/09/2019 11:23

£600 new and three years old?
I'd pay up to £150 but only if it looked well looked after and you seemed genuine.

MyDcAreMarvel · 23/09/2019 11:23

About £50.

ritaBx · 23/09/2019 11:25

I've sold it to the new tenant moving in so it won't be taken out etc. She's just split with her husband and is leaving with her dcs so I thought it would help her out. She didn't have one.

I've sold it for slightly less than £100 so seems maybe it was too cheap.

Maybe dh was right on this occasion....it's a rare occurrence

I use ebay - completed listings to gauge how much things are worth to sell, seems a 9kg samsung machine goes for £80-240. A lot depends where you are and how long you advertise for. I sold a sofa recently, had only 1 person interested in a month but they travelled 2hrs and paid the asking price.

Trillis · 23/09/2019 14:56

No not too cheap. I know it's not quite the same, but I bought a 4 year old Hotpoint dishwasher off ebay for £25. They are about £250 new so only worth 10% of new value after 4 years.

For 2nd hand white goods when people can buy a brand new washer/dryer for about £350,
they aren't going to pay the same for a used one even if it is a better model. I would have said up to £150 max for yours. And the convenience factor of just being able to leave it in situ would probably be worth £50 for me!

Like another poster said, it's also about not having a guarantee. Many appliances bought nowadays don't last much longer than 4 or 5 years, so anyone buying one that's getting close to that age is taking a decent risk as it is. It's simply not worth paying much for.

berlinbabylon · 23/09/2019 15:05

If I were moving into a new house with an integrated washing machine I would have left the old one for the people buying my house if they wanted it. Or given it away.

ScreamingValenta · 23/09/2019 15:06

I'd advertise for £100, accept £80 if haggled.

Bluntness100 · 23/09/2019 15:08

I don't think it's too cheap either, in fact you likely did well.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 23/09/2019 15:12

She's just split with her husband and is leaving with her dcs so I thought it would help her out.

Was going to say £100 but read your update and can't argue with your decision, that was really kind of you ritaBx Thanks

Notajogger · 23/09/2019 15:12

Sounds like you did well actually OP.

Soontobe60 · 23/09/2019 15:14

I'd have bought it for £50 so you've got a good price for it.
