To go when I've been sick

DC3 spent yesterday afternoon being sick. Has seemed much better since about 5 m and kept food and drinks down. I had an upset stomach last night and have spent half an hour vomiting.

I have a big work meeting that I am running this afternoon. It can't be moved as it's in preparation for something critical next week. One of the team is heavily pregnant. I can't go in can I ? Even if I feel better I just can't risk this for my colleague.

Next, I have a funeral tomorrow. It's someone I feel a great deal for and I want to support my parents. It involves a couple of hours travel each way. Again, the last people I want to give anything to is mourners. My current rule of thumb is I'll go as long as I haven't been sick within 24 hrs of the funeral time, I'll go, with lots of antibacterial gel and great caution in touching anyone. Does this sound OK?

Oh and DH is of course away with work for the next few days...week is already shaping up to be a 🍑.

You'd keep non sick children off school for a week?

Drum2018 · 23/09/2019 14:36

Unless they are sick too then no, I wouldn't keep them off.

No I would not keep non sick children off, if they said they feel sick in the morning I’d believe them and keep off them but as long as they look and say they feel ok then in they go. I’ve found as mine get older it doesn’t go through the entire family as maybe hygiene is a bit better!! Also, I’ve got the dettol air spray and spray that over toilet and flush handles (I only use this when we have a sick bug in the house though as being exposed to everyday germs is good for you!).

So poor husband also has it. Only a matter of time until other DC. I'm hopeful it was super mild in baby that it won't be so bad for them. I'm really tempted to keep them off school as it comes on really suddenly and I can't see that they won't infect their entire class.

I honestly wouldn’t miss a hugely important work meeting if my symptoms have subsided. I would just not touch anyone and be more careful. I’d be worried that missing the meeting would look really bad. Maybe I’m selfish but I’m just being honest.

I am terrified of vomit. If you came to work having been sick I would be seriously unimpressed and probably go home myself!

Ginfordinner · 24/09/2019 06:52

Yes, you are selfish pain Hmm

Some people cant afford to keep taking time off. Some people don't get paid sick leave. For some people a day off would mean a reduction in money that would make the difference between rent or food. It's never as simple as stay off for 48 hours etc. Some people don't have a choice.

Hope you all get better soon @glittergoat
