To go for a run and not wash my hair?

I'm desperately trying to fit exercise back into my life, and the only viable way I can see to do this is to use my lunch-time to go for a run twice a week. I really can't be gone for more than an hour, and I can get changed, go for a 30 minute run, have a quick shower and get dressed and back to my desk in that time, but I definitely can't wash and dry my (below shoulder length) hair. Is it really grim to run and sit with the sweat in my hair in the office all afternoon? I think if I tie it up in a tight bun while I run it'll look ok, but I'm worried it might be socially unacceptable, so thought I'd put it to the famously sensitive noses of the vipers...

I don't wash my hair after every run, I often do it the following morning.

I can't see a problem with what you're proposing, even if your head is a bit sweaty it won't smell!

dementedpixie · 22/09/2019 14:55

I give it classes 4 days a week but only wash my hair 2 or 3 times a week. Quick blast of dry shampoo might help

GrapefruitGin · 22/09/2019 14:56

Oh my god of course you don’t have to wash it every time! Posters saying you should go for a shorter run or leave your hair wet are a bit ridiculous imo. Bit of dry shampoo, that’s all you need.

megletthesecond · 22/09/2019 14:57

Yanbu.
As long as you've had a quick body shower I don't think you need to wash your hair during the work day.

m0therofdragons · 22/09/2019 15:00

How sweaty do people get after a 30min run that their hair smells? If you're able to have a quick body wash and spray deodorant then I'd think it was fine but I don't think I'm especially sweaty.

SmallAndFarAway · 22/09/2019 15:00

I do this, no complaints yet... You get yourself into a routine after a bit, I can make it from run to desk in twelve minutes. Don't forget cooling down time though, I use it to buy lunch but it is an extra few minutes to account for.

NotGreenNotKeen · 22/09/2019 15:02

You'll have a very spotty scalp...

You'll have a very spotty scalp...

What rubbish! I don't suffer from a spotty scalp from lack of hair washing

Lemonlimesoda · 22/09/2019 15:04

Think that’s a good idea about drying the sweat with a dryer then a quick spritz of dry shampoo and will take less than 5 mins

ranibowsprimkle · 22/09/2019 15:07

If nothing else regularly washing your hair twice a day will be really bad for it.

Dry shampoo and stick it up in a bun.

Rezie · 22/09/2019 15:11

It's totally fine. I'm doing c25k and I don't sweat when doing it too bad. I have a skin condition and shouldn't shower too often so sometimes I don't have a full shower but wait till the next day when I go to the gym.

SudowoodoVoodoo · 22/09/2019 15:12

I tend to organise hair washing around runs/ heavy exercise as it doesn't need doing daily anyway. When I do RED January, I'm not washing it daily after every single run, particularly shorter ones. Dry shampoo and tying it up works well at tiding it over until you are ready to wash it properly.

GameSetMatch · 22/09/2019 15:15

It will definitely be fine, a nice pony tail or a tight bun and nobody will notice if it’s a bit sweaty/greasy.

snowone · 22/09/2019 15:15

If your hair is long enough to be tied up then you will be fine. Nobody will know but you Grin

FrauHaribo · 22/09/2019 15:15

I don't wash my hair after a run.

I also don't wear make-up, or very little, too much faff to organise.

Go and exercise, have a quick shower, go back to your desk. Once you are home in the evening, have a long shower, wash your hair, shave whatever you want to shave before going to bed. Job done.

Unless you do a mud run, you don't need to wash clean hair because you did a couple of hours exercise. It can wait until the evening.

Littlepeak34 · 22/09/2019 15:17

I think it depends on how much you sweat. If you’re dripping then i would lean to you need to wash it but if it’s just small amount of sweat, I’d just leave it or dry the wet bits.

If you’re showering you’re hardly going to smell the office out.

FindusCrispyPancakes · 22/09/2019 15:17

I think it's fine. I used to go spinning in my lunch break, you can imagine how sweaty I got. I had a shower but didn't wash my hair afterwards, I just tied it back. If I had something on where I had to present or a meeting etc in the afternoon, I'd skip the class though.

kateandme · 22/09/2019 15:18

no one i know washes there hair unless thy get major sweaty.and these are people who run run lol
test it out.see how you go.if you feel horrid then work a new system.give your face a really good wash and i cant see a problem at all.
my sisters office is part of a country running group in the office building lunch break and they never wash their hair they just all shower.never heard any complaints.

Aridane · 22/09/2019 15:19

Goodness no - no need to wash your hair

cattaxi · 22/09/2019 15:21

Not grim! I doubt your hair will be dripping with sweat from doing 5k in winter. I often don’t wash my hair after a workout. It’s fine. A bit of dry shampoo sorts my fringe out if necessary.
Good luck!

BeFire · 22/09/2019 15:21

You'll be fine. Dry shampoo or even a fringe wash, dry under hand dryer if desperate.

Pinkyyy · 22/09/2019 15:21

I honestly would rather go before work. Sounds like hell to me.

AgnesNutterWitch · 22/09/2019 15:27

I have dry curly hair, if I washed it every time I exercised it would be fucked. Not grim at all, OP.

cocomelon23 · 22/09/2019 15:27

I exercise in my lunch hour and have never washed my hair at work. I dont even put dry shampoo in it for the afternoon.

LuluBellaBlue · 22/09/2019 15:30

It’s totally fine don’t worry about it - I’m 30 mins I’m sure it won’t even get sweaty, just maybe a bit damp if rained on?
